Bryan Singer will replace Matthew Vaughn for X-Men sequel

With the departure of Matthew Vaughn happened for the upcoming First Class sequel happened there were questions about who would step in to fill the director's chair. We now have confirmation that Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) will be directing X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Production is set to begin early in 2013 for a release of July 18, 2014.

Disney buys Lucasfilm: Star Wars Episode VII in the works for 2015

I am in shock. I don't want to live on this planet anymore. There is officially no happiness left.

Bob Iger... go fuck yourself. You too, George Lucas.

Disney buys Lucasfilm for $4 billion; Star Wars Episode VII will kick off new trilogy in 2015

George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy have met with writers for Episode VII

Bob Iger and George Lucas talk the acquisition of Lucasfilm.

EDIT: So I have had some time to calm down a little bit since first discovering this. If you didn't know already, I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have collectibles, I know all 6 movies like the back of my hand, I quote them, I have tattoos, etc.. I just love the hell out of Star Wars.
However, this is not good news for me. I love Disney, don't get me wrong, but Disney has become nothing but a cash cow. They do nothing but seek things that people love so they can squeeze every possible cent out of it. Take Marvel as an example. People have loved Marvel comics and characters for decades. The minute Disney gets their hands on it there is double the merchandise, double the Halloween costumes, they are putting Iron Man into Disneyland, and the list just goes on and on. Marvel is nothing but a coin bank for Bob Iger and it's to the point of disgusting at this point. It really is. Disney now owns and operates Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and some aspects of Apple. I swear by the time 2025 rolls around Disney will own the entire movie industry and/or DC Comics as well as Marvel. The biggest thing for them would be to also acquire characters like Batman and Superman.

Disney already had George Lucas to a point because of the Star Tours ride in Disneyland and Disneyworld. It was a great ride and I always loved it a lot. However, they completely ruined it by refurbishing it into this bullshit "Star Tours: The Adventures Continue" ride. It is in 3D, there are only 3 possible destinations despite them saying the possibilities are endless (it's a flat out lie), they jump from episode to episode to the point where it makes no sense, and they completely made it all about the damn prequels. When I rode the new version for the first time in March I knew it was all over when I saw Jar Jar Binks on the screen. I tried to unbuckle and exit the ride while it was in full swing. I just wanted nothing to do with it.
The point is after seeing what Disney did with Star Tours I have no confidence that they will do good things with the story and/or the characters. They will create stupid situations, stupid characters, and this new trilogy will be a piece of shit catered only to kids younger than the age of 12 because they don't know any better. They grew up with the crappy Clone Wars television show and the prequels being all they know. I feel sorry for any true Star Wars fan who is happy about this. I hope that I am wrong and will be surprised, but I'm not counting on it. I am so angry I could spit.

[UPDATE] Frank Grillo confirmed for Captain America sequel

I mentioned not too long ago that Frank Grillo (Warrior) was in the casting process for an unknown villain role for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We now have confirmation that Grillo will be playing the role of Crossbones in the 2014 sequel.

If you know nothing about Crossbones, basically he is Brock Rumlow; a marksman who later became a henchman of Johann Schmidt (aka, Red Skull). Before joining a school of criminals where he became Bingo Brock, he was the leader of a gang called Savage Crims. Crossbones is also skilled in hand-to-hand combat. In other words, he is a pretty badass Marvel super villain.

Matthew Vaughn out of X-Men: First Class sequel

With no explanation at this moment it has been announced that Matthew Vaughn has left the director's chair for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Despite his departure the cast is still intact, including Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender, and they are still aiming for the July 2014 release. There are replacements being thrown around already and the one at the top of the list is Bryan Singer.

Singer directed and wrote X-Men and X-2 along with having a writing and producing credit for X-Men: First Class, so his involvement wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Hopefully he steps in to fill the empty chair.

Evil Dead first redband trailer

Like I said before I am not happy that this movie has been remade, but I have to admit that this looks pretty decent. I am a lot more comfortable with it now.

A look inside Carrie's new closet

We now have a sneak peek inside the closet where Carrie spends some time in the upcoming reboot of the 1976 classic.

Carrie is set to open March 15, 2013 and stars Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore.

First Images from Iron Man 3!

We have the first images for Iron Man 3 along with a teaser poster. Enjoy them as much as I did.

More photos after the jump!

Frank Grillo joining Captain America 2?

Frank Grillo (Warrior, The Grey) confirmed via Twitter that he is in the testing phase for a villain role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The other villain roles have yet to be announced nor is there confirmation that Grillo is in fact joining the cast, but I think he would make a pretty decent villain. I can't wait to hear who the other villains are.

So far the only confirmations we have are Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers (aka, Captain America) and Anthony Mackie who will be playing Falcon. It is also likely that Sebastian Stan will return to play Bucky Barnes (aka, The Winter Soldier). There are rumors circulating around a major female lead role but no one has been cast yet. The role hasn't even been named yet.

Excision - Review

Excision tells the story of an off-beat teenage girl who has aspirations of becoming a surgeon. She is, however, plagued with delusional fantasies and the overwhelming desire to impress her parents and to save her younger sister who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.

Let me just start off by saying the advertising for this movie is incredibly misleading. It is practically nothing like what the trailer made it out to look like. I saw the trailer and got excited because it looked like a legitimate horror film and that seems difficult to come by these days. I also saw Bloody-Disgusting had covered it a bit so I decided to get it from Netflix and give it a shot.

Now with that out of the way, Excision wasn't necessarily bad for what it was worth. It is visually driven more than anything else and I can appreciate that. It had a lot of dark humor, which I find funny, so that was a plus. I just feel like it was off with the pacing. It seriously was like a play in the sense that it felt like you were going from one act to another and each act was completely different. First you have Pauline (AnnaLynne McCord) wanting to have sex, then you have her fighting with girls at school, then you have her clashing with mom, and then the resolution of her medical aspirations. It was almost like Pauline's character had no beginning. This is also where the advertising is misleading. The trailer, or at least the first trailer I saw, leads you to think Pauline is the sick teenager who is trying to do things before she dies when in reality it is her younger sister Grace who is sick. Pauline is perfectly healthy. She is just a self proclaimed Borderline Personality who has weird, graphic delusions about medical procedures.
I must also say the ending was incredibly rushed. It builds you up and just completely shuts it down. When the credits started I was a little pissed.

I guess I just expected something different than what I got. It's really difficult to describe what I just watched. Would I recommend it? Um... maybe. It kind of depends on what you're into. I don't really know what to say about it.

Paranormal Activity 5 set for Halloween 2013

Surprise!

Well, not really. Paramount announced they will be releasing a fifth installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise next Halloween. Since the first PA film was released in 2009 people have pretty much gone ape shit for it. I have never been a fan of the films and I haven't seen Paranormal Activity 4 yet, but this comes to no surprise to me.

Some people are questioning why Paramount has given the green light to a fifth film already because Paranormal Activity 4 is apparently the worst one yet and it is actually getting negative reviews from both critics and fans. However, this franchise is a cash cow for Paramount so they will run it into the ground just like what Lionsgate did with the Saw franchise. They should have stopped at the third and we got seven with a possible eighth still coming, or a reboot, so I am predicting Paranormal Activity won't die until a 6th or 7th film. If it stops at five I will be surprised.

Warm Bodies poster is released

And it looks as terrible and the movie sounds. If you didn't hear anything about Warm Bodies it is basically Twilight with a zombie and stars Nicholas Hoult.

Warner Bros. plans to have the Justice League by 2015

Add yet another Justice League related bit of potential truth to the pile. A very large pile.

According to the LA Times, Warner Bros. is hoping to complete a Justice League film no later than next year so it can be released in the summer of 2015, a little bit after The Avengers 2 which is set for May 2015.

Will Beall is already working on a script but so far the only DC film we have on the way is Man of Steel which comes out on June 14, 2013. If they want to try and fully mock what Marvel has done with Phase 1, and now Phase 2, they will have to rush at least one more character film in for 2014 before Justice League in 2015. Whether that is another Batman flick already or one centered around Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, etc.. We had a Green Lantern film with Ryan Reynolds last year but it was a complete flop and many who saw it, including myself, hated the shit out of it. Absolute trash.

In order to make this work and have it be decent Warner Bros. has their work cut out for them. They have to begin casting for at least 5-6 main characters and also toss around the idea of introducing another independent superhero film after Man of Steel. My bet is they will try to make a movie for Wonder Woman so we'll see if I'm right. It's a bit too soon to try and reboot Batman already, imo.

Iron Man coming to Disneyland?

If you didn't know I am a fairly big Disneyland buff. I love the park and all things Disney in general, for the most part. While doing some reading I found some interesting insider information that confirms what many people have been pondering, or dreading, since Disney obtained Marvel... will Marvel characters be integrated into the Disney theme parks? The answer is yes.

According to Al Lutz, a credible Disney blogger and editor-in-chief MiceAge, Disney has begun plans to place none other than Iron Man into the Disneyland Resort. The word is an unnamed and undisclosed Iron Man thrill ride will replace the current unpopular attraction Innoventions in Disneyland's Tomorrowland. Hit the jump for more details!

Official synopsis for Kick-Ass 2

IGN has the official plot synopsis for the upcoming film Kick-Ass 2, originally released by Universal:

First teaser trailer for Carrie debuts

I am excited for Carrie but this isn't a very good teaser, imo. The teaser for Evil Dead beat this one and I didn't think I would have ever said that. Here's to hoping the full length trailer is more exciting.

Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 to be 3D releases

Marvel has announced a couple details about the Cinematic Universe today.

First off, both Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World will be 3D releases. Other than The Avengers I don't think there has been a 3D Iron Man film yet, but Thor was released in 3D last year so that isn't surprising. None of this is surprising, actually. Just about every film Disney releases these days is in 3D. There haven't been any 3D announcements for Captain America: The Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy but I bet they will also be in the 3D format.

The other announcement, which is sort of big news, is the release for Ant-Man has been shuffled to November 6, 2015. That now puts Ant-Man after The Avengers 2 which comes out on May 1, 2015. If I remember correctly Ant-Man was previously rumored to be released right before The Avengers 2 in 2014. Personally I don't care about Ant-Man. I think it's a stupid character to begin with and that he shouldn't have his own movie.

First image from The Evil Dead reboot debuts at NYCC

New York Comic Con has had a fair share of information so far and yet another piece is the first image from the upcoming Evil Dead reboot. There was also a teaser trailer that has yet to surface online.

Personally... I thought this was a photo from The Exorcist. I have yet to become excited for this reboot.

EDIT [10-15-12]: I just saw a ripped copy of the NYCC teaser trailer. I have to stand up to be the bigger person here and admit that it looks pretty cool. I'm not saying I am jumping up and down excited but it looks a lot better than I was expecting. I can now go see this movie comfortably. You can see it here as long as it stays active. I suggest doing it quickly because it will probably get taken down.

[UPDATE] New Carrie poster released at NYCC

New York Comic Con had both a panel and a new poster for the upcoming Carrie reboot starring Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore. There is also a viral marketing piece being spread around where you can call Carrie's cell phone (207-404-2604) and receive a response from either Carrie or her mother. I did it last night and admit it is a fun little trick. There was also a short teaser trailer but that has yet to surface online.

The NYCC panel and poster are as follows. Carrie opens on March 15, 2013.

UPDATE: You can watch the first teaser trailer for Carrie here.

Agent Coulson to return in S.H.I.E.L.D. television show

Joss Whedon has confirmed that Agent Phil Coulson played by Clark Gregg will be featured in the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. television show. Whedon explained at New York Comic Con this past weekend how Agent Coulson became an important character to both the writers and the fans and there was no way the show would exist without him.

We all saw Agent Coulson's fate during The Avengers so it will be interesting to see how the television show will play out.

Thor 2 official synopsis revealed

We now have an official synopsis for Thor: The Dark World which is set to be released next November.

"Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos, but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all."

I cannot wait. I loved Thor.

Shailene Woodley may join The Amazing Spiderman 2

The rumors for The Amazing Spiderman 2 have begun circulating. The first two are regarding potential casting for Mary Jane Watson and a possible villain.

First off... Mary Jane. The latest rumor is that Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, Secret Life of an American Teenager) is in talks for the role. Along with Marc Webb returning to direct, Emma Stone is also going to return to reprise the role of Gwen Stacy so it is possible Peter Parker's love life will shift a bit in the sequel. Don't take this too close to heart just yet as the is in "early talks" with the studio so the deal could still fall through. It appears she is their top choice so it probably will happen.
The casting process has also begun for the role of Harry Osborn. Harry was previously played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's Spiderman trilogy so we will see who will take the reigns there.

As far as villains for the sequel go, it appears a potential villain being considered is Electro. There is no confirmation on a villain but Electro is on the list of potentials. If you aren't familiar with Electro, he is basically a man who gains electrical powers after being struck by lightning.

The Amazing Spiderman 2 is set to open May 2, 2014 so there is plenty of time to get things put together.

Frankenweenie - Review

Frankenweenie tells the tale of a young boy named Victor who brings his perished dog Sparky back to life. Little does he know the consequences of his scientific breakthrough as it creates mayhem in his small town of New Holland.

I have been excited for Frankenweenie since early this year. I saw the first trailer and I was immediately pumped. I loved Tim Burton's original 1984 Frankenweenie film with Daniel Stern and I wasn't sure if this new one would top it. I must say that I honestly and truly think this is the best Tim Burton film we have received in the past 15 years. It is much better than Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which are both crap imo. I thought it was still more enjoyable than Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow, and even Corpse Bride.

The animation is fantastic! I love that he returned to the stop animation and that it was in black & white. It added to the atmosphere of the story and it worked really well with how the town was designed. I also loved the voice talent used. Catherine O'Hara was fantastic as was Martin Short and Winona Ryder. I was really excited to have them a part of this movie. The kids were also well voiced and the dialogue had its funny moments which helped lighten the mood a bit.
What I loved was Tim Burton kind of returning to his roots both with the cast and the style. It was very much like his short film "Vincent" and had a lot of elements from the 1984 Frankenweenie short. It is the first film since Big Fish to not have Johnny Depp and the first since Sleepy Hollow to not have Helena Bonham Carter and I think that was a wise move. I love both of them but there comes a time where enough is enough. They were paired together for Corpse Bride and I think it would have been redundant to pair them again for Frankenweenie. I have no doubt if they were cast they would have voiced Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein. He used this opportunity to reunite himself with Winona Ryder, who hasn't worked with him since Edward Scissorhands, and Catherine O'Hara.

In terms of the plot it is very simple but it is played out very nicely. Nothing feels too rushed or too slow. I thought it was the perfect pace and there is a lot to touch someone who has ever been a pet owner. I will admit that my eyes got a bit misty when Sparky passes away because it reminded me of when I lost my first dog. You understand how Victor feels in just wanting his dog back.
One thing I loved was the amount of adults laughing throughout the movie. Yes, it is a kids movie but I love it when as an adult you are able to enjoy it just as much as the children. The dialogue had funny moments and the characters were priceless. The "weird girl" was probably the best character in the whole movie for me. She was hilarious and her cat Mr. Whiskers was just as funny. Catherine O'Hara did a fantastic job voicing her.

Another thing I want to mention is the tie into previous Burton films. The general feel of the town, New Holland, made me think of Edward Scissorhands. The general family structure of the working father with the homemaker mother sitting at home was similar along with the design of the neighborhood. The houses seemed very old-fashioned, like they were in Scissorhands, with perfect yards and gardens. You also can notice the similarities between characters. The Mayor especially reminded me of Mr. Everglot from Corpse Bride. You also notice a striking similarity between Victor Frankenstein and Corpse Bride's main character Victor Van Dort. Also the mutant sea monkeys looking like the swamp monster from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Overall I would give Frankenweenie an easy A rating. It was truly a joy and I am very happy to say that I finally have the Tim Burton I love back. I hope it stays this way from now on and he stops making ridiculous movies like Alice in Wonderland and Planet of the Apes.

Welcome to October

As you may have read last week, I went on vacation but I am now back. I wish you a happy October and I hope you make it as Halloween filled as I will make mine. To start things off here is an on-ride POV of Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland.

New Skyfall trailer feat. Adele

We now have a trailer for the upcoming James Bond movie, Skyfall, featuring the new theme song by Adele. I personally love the song and I think it fits well with the trailer. This one looks better than the previous trailer I saw and I will definitely be seeing Skyfall now.
