Tron 3 officially... not happening

Despite recent rumors surrounding a third installment of Disney's Tron franchise, it appears that Disney decided to take matters into their own hands. The studio announced that there are currently, and possibly never, plans to film a third installment of the franchise.

The rumors were claiming that filming was set to start in Vancouver late this year with Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde returning as well as director Joseph Kosinki returning.

I would have liked to see a third Tron, but oh well. In a way it bugs me but at the same time it doesn't.

Levi Miller to play Peter Pan

The search for Peter Pan has ended with newcomer Levi Miller.

When I say newcomer I mean it. Miller was a young version of a main character in Terra Nova and starred in two short films. Other than that there really isn't anything else on his resume.
Miller joins Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, and Rooney Mara in Joe Wright's Pan. It is set in the wake of WWII and follows a young orphan as he is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland. The orphan learns his destiny to defeat Blackbeard.

We will see Pan in theaters on July 17, 2015.

Hugh Jackman joins Peter Pan reboot

Just yesterday we learned Garrett Hedlund had been cast as Captain Hook in Joe Wright's Pan. We now have confirmation of rumors circulating around Hugh Jackman. The X-Men veteran has indeed been cast as Blackbeard. The role was originally offered to Javier Bardem but he passed on the role, so the studio approached Jackman.

Pan is set for release on July 17, 2015.

Garrett Hedlund to play Captain Hook

Joe Wright's reboot for Peter Pan is shaping up smoothly. We just learned that the role of Captain Hook has gone to Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy). Previously there were rumors that Hugh Jackman was being looked at for the role of Blackbeard.

Hedlund reportedly beat out Jack Huston and Ezra Miller for the role of Captain Hook. The role is described as a lead role, but it's not confirmed whether he is already a captain in this adaptation. Given the age of the actors being considered I wouldn't be surprised to see him be an ordinary pirate and not a captain just yet.

Pan is set for theaters on July 17, 2015.

Garrett Hedlund to return for another Tron film

People are acting like this is a "duh" story and I'm not so sure it is. Basically, Garrett Hedlund confirmed during a press junket that he will be returning as Sam Flynn in a third Tron film (aka, the followup to Tron: Legacy).

Casting for this movie was speculated after Disney changed the writers for the film and websites are all, they aren't in the habit of recasting the lead roles etc.. I have seen numerous main characters recast when it wasn't necessary and/or when it made absolutely no sense. I wasn't all that sure that Hedlund was going to return or if they were going to make another Tron movie to begin with. So to everyone acting like this is a "no duh, lol" moment... get over yourselves. This is Hollywood. Remember that.

New trailer for On the Road

We have another new trailer for the upcoming film On the Road starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart. It also showcases the US release date of December 2012.







I'm still excited for this movie.

UPDATE: On The Road international trailer debuts

The international trailer for the film adaptation of On the Road surfaced. It isn't all that different in terms of dialogue from the first trailer we received prior to Cannes but it's different enough. I usually prefer international trailers to US trailers for some reason. They always seem to be better put together.
On the Road stars Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart. It is based off the classic Jack Kerouac novel of the same title. There is no US release date officially set just yet. I read a rumor of December 2012 but I don't think Sundance Selects and IFC have confirmed that.
UPDATE (8/7): IFC and Sundance Selects have set a release date for the film. We will see it here in the US on December 21, 2012. It shares the weekend with This is 40, The Impossible, and Jack Reacher. I highly doubt On the Road will be getting a wide release, though. As much as I would love a wide release it probably isn't going to happen because it is such an independent-like film. Unless it does really well it might have to wait for DVD or an early On Demand engagement.

[UPDATE] Taylor Kitsch will not be in Catching Fire

The casting rumors and shoot downs for the role of Finnick in Catching Fire continue to appear. The latest rumor to die is 31-year old Taylor Kitsch. You may know him from the recent box office bombs John Carter and Battleship. Kitsch told the LA Times that it is "not going to happen." This news comes shortly after Robert Pattinson denied his involvement and said he will not be playing Finnick.

Earlier this week E! Online reported that casting had apparently come down to three finalists: Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer (The Social Network, Mirror Mirror), and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy, On the Road). The downright truth of this remains unknown as Lionsgate is refusing to comment on and/or confirm or deny anything about the casting of Finnick, but if this is true it seems that we only have two options.

Out of the two remaining I would much rather have Garrett Hedlund. I think he has more of the look and overall feel of Finnick over Armie Hammer. I have only seen Hammer in one film, which was The Social Network, and I wasn't all that impressed. The only thing he has over Hedlund is the physique. However, Hammer is starring in The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and that is a new franchise hopeful for Disney. It is possible that due to his upcoming scheduling he might not even be available to commit to both Catching Fire and Mockingjay as the role of Finnick is in both.

New 1-min clip of On the Road

There is a new extended clip of On the Road thanks to the press surrounding Cannes 2012. If features Sam Riley (Sal), Kristen Stewart (Marylou), and Garrett Hedlund (Dean).

I have been following this one, as you may know, because I really liked the book. The casting still kind of confuses me but I am rolling with it. The movie is almost 2 years old already so it's not like you can bitch too much. I am currently re-reading the book because it has been like 5-6 years since I last read it and I am quite enjoying myself. I can't wait to see the movie whenever it is available. Rumors are saying we will get it in the US this fall via IFC, AMC, and Sundance Selects. The distribution isn't the rumor but the release date is.

IFC and Sundance Selects to distribute On the Road

This is pretty good news. IFC Films and Sundance Selects have acquired distribution rights for On the Road. There still is no US release date but with this distribution pickup rumors of this fall are swirling around. The film will be shown at Cannes 2012.

I am a fan of the book and people are saying the movie is fantastic so yes... I am very excited. If it is that good a fall 2012 release is a very positive thing when it comes to the award season. It's not too late but it's not too early. Let's hope!

Cannes 2012 competition list released

The competition list for the Cannes Film Festival 2012 has been released. The festival runs from May 16th to the 27th in France. 

I have been waiting for this. I also must mention that I am happy to see that On the Road is going to be screened. Hopefully that is an indication that it will get a US release date soon.

On the Road to play at Cannes

We speculated it and it's happening. Ugh, I want to see this movie ffs. We still don't have a US release date either.

Other movies screening at Cannes 2012 seem to be Cosmopolis, Moonrise Kingdom, Cogan's Trade, and Rust & Bone.

On the Road poster surfaces

I have been excited to see more about On the Road. It's already almost 2 years old and no one has even seen it yet. I loved the book so I am curious to see what they did with it and how.

There are rumors swirling around that the film is going to be shown at Cannes 2012 and it already has gotten a September release date for the UK. No word on a US release date and/or when we are getting a trailer. Hopefully it's soon.
