American Horror Story season four theme revealed

After speculation and some casting confirmation, we have word that the fourth season of American Horror Story will indeed be a carnival theme.

While we don't have an official title yet, co-executive producer Douglas Petrie confirmed that the fourth season will be set in a spooky carnival. Co-creator Ryan Murphy dismissed early rumors of a circus theme claiming fans hadn't completely guessed the theme yet. Call me crazy, but a carnival and a circus are pretty similar when it comes down to it. He would confirm that the fourth season will follow suit of Asylum in the sense that it takes place during two different time periods beginning in 1950.
Confirmed cast members so far include Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson with Angela Bassett returning as well. All three are series vets and I won't be surprised to see more.

Despite having a minor teaser of the theme during this past week's Coven episode, we now have more information regarding the fourth installment of American Horror Story.

Co-creator Ryan Murphy teased fans a bit more by giving us knowledge that it will take place in the year 1950 and that it will be a period piece. He also includes how they try and not do what they have done before, so to expect something different. The final teaser, "Jessica Lange is already practicing her German accent so I'm very excited!"


So I did some research on the year 1950...

• The Cold War was in full effect as early as January.
• In January, there were some German doctors and scientists who came out and admitted to being Soviet spies. They passed nuclear data from the British and Germans to Russia. 
• The first steps toward the European Union were set in place in May.
• The Korean War began in June.
• Communist riots erupted in Berlin, Germany in September. Also in the same month, West Germany purged all Communist leaders. 
• East Germany approves Communism in a landslide vote in October.

It is also worth mentioning that 1950 was still pretty much the tail end of World War II. Although the European Occupation was pretty much wrapped up by 1945, people were still picking up the pieces in the 1950's. It is possible that this season could be about remaining Nazi's and war criminals. Just putting that out there. I also think with the time frame it could have something to do with the Holocaust or the Cold War. It might be an excited theme to have Communism and spies.

American Horror Story to drop hints about Season 4

Word has it that there will be some hints dropped about the upcoming fourth season of American Horror Story. When Coven returns in January, pay attention to the episode because we are supposed to get a hint regarding the theme to the next season. Here is all the info we have on what to look for:

It will not take place in modern times.
The clue will hint to its theme and setting.
Filming is set to take place in Santa Fe or New Orleans.

That's all we have, folks. FX has renewed American Horror Story for 13 episodes to air in Fall 2014. I would assume around the same time in October.

Any guesses for the theme of season 4? I am still pulling for a cult theme, but I don't know if it will happen. All I ask is they don't go for vampires. I am so sick of vampires.

FX orders more American Horror Story

American Horror Story has officially been renewed for a fourth season by FX. We are currently underway into the third season, Coven, and things are going quite well so far. Coven isn't set to end until January 29th, but there will be 13 episodes in season four to tide us over next year.

This renewal is not surprising as Coven has outshined and shattered ratings records of both seasons one and two. There is no word on whether they will do, for the first time, a direct continuation of Coven's storyline or if they will follow suit and have another new theme with new characters.
Another possibility at this point is a continuation of season one (aka, Murder House). The way the season ended left it open for continuation and I was pretty surprised that season two (aka, Asylum) was a completely different thing with new characters and the same actors. With Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton expressing interest to return we might just revisit Murder House. I wouldn't rule it out.
