People's Choice Awards 2012
I usually enjoy watching these types of awards shows in a weird way. They're good for a laugh every once in a while.
This year, however, was really stupid. I mean damn. The jokes were lame, most of the categories presented live were TV shows (I felt like I was watching the Emmy's ffs), the girl from Big Bang Theory was a little too bubbly, the whole show was rushed, etc.. It was just not the best. Not to mention it was ridiculously full of product placement, specifically Cover Girl and CVS Pharmacy. There was at least two commercials for one of those every break if not both. They also pushed the product during the show.
I did like seeing Chloe Grace Moretz and Emma Stone take home awards, though. I like both of them a lot and look forward to their careers expanding.
But I must say... it was interesting to see one of these fan-voted shows without any Twilight. I don't even think Breaking Dawn Part 1 was even nominated for anything. Ah, I look forward to the future. =^D

Warm Bodies = zombie Twilight?
I will admit I hadn't heard a thing about the new Summit Entertainment zombie film, Warm Bodies, until this morning. It is set to hit theaters on August 10th. The central plot is basically this: a tormented zombie begins a friendship with the girlfriend of one of his victims that starts a reaction that will affect him and his fellow zombies. The film will feature Nicholas Hoult as the lead zombie named "R." It will also feature John Malkovich, Lizzy Caplan, Teresa Palmer, and Rob Corddry.
Call me crazy, but Summit touching anything with the horror supernatural (look at what they did with Twilight) seems to be more of the same. Check out this first image that surfaced back in November. It looks like one of the same poses they used for Twilight promos, including the same coloring.
Bloody-Disgusting (where I found the second image posted below) thinks Warm Bodies sounds a bit less like Twilight, and they are thankful, but I am not so sure. We're going to have to wait for a trailer to know for sure. I'm predicting another teen supernatural drama with shitty acting. The only plus side is there is no doubt in my mind that this won't have the massive fanbase that Twilight has. Warner Bros. adaptation of Akira put on hold (again)
Despite being approved by the studio like 3 months ago all pre-production for a new adaptation of Akira has been stopped for the fourth time. Apparently there are still kinks in the film's budget that they are trying to work out. If they can't solve the issues by the end of January the project could very well be axed completely.
So far Garrett Hedlund (aka, Sam in Tron: Legacy) is the only confirmed actor. Kristen Stewart was offered the role of Kei, with no acceptance or denial as far as I know, and Ken Wattanabe has been in talks to replace Gary Oldman as The Colonel, but that is all rumored. There is no official confirmation on anything except Hedlund being cast as Shotaro Kaneda. Personally I think casting non-Asians in a film like this is a bit odd and fans might find it offensive. But then again, there are a lot of Anime and Manga freaks out there that aren't Asian so I guess you never know.

Silent House trailer hits
Aka, The Strangers 2?
After watching the trailer I was heavily reminded of The Strangers. Only this one seems to have less people and a little different setting. Home invasion is definitely nothing new which is most likely the issue, just like exorcism movies, but with that said I am intrigued enough to probably check out Silent House. It is released in theaters March 9th.
Oh, and it promises "real scares." We'll see about that, lol.

Joost and Schulman to return for more Paranormal Activity
Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost are in final negotiations to return to direct Paranormal Activity 4. Also returning are Katie, Kristi, and Toby the demon.

I think it's good for this franchise to have some consistency. Seeing that everyone keeps comparing this up and coming franchise to Saw I will go ahead and do the same. By this point in the Saw franchise it had only seen two directors. James Wan directed Saw and Darren Lynn Bousman directed Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV. That franchise didn't see a new director until Saw V when David Hackl was brought in. Although, Hackl had been involved with the franchise since Saw II serving as a production designer and a second unit director, so he wasn't really new to the franchise.
So far each Paranormal Activity film has had a different director; Oren Peli directed Paranormal Activity, Tod Williams directed Paranormal Activity 2, and Ariel Shulman & Henry Joost directed Paranormal Activity 3. I think the consistency is good because this will allow Schulman and Joost to pick up right where they left off and it will be familiar territory.

The Evil Dead reboot has its Ash!
Sort of. I don't quite understand.
Apparently... the new script and plot has a female lead which will be the equivalent of Ash, originally played by Bruce Campbell. You read it right; a female lead. And who will play this female lead? It has been announced that Lily Collins is in final negotiations to secure the role. Yes the girl who was in The Blind Side and the Snow White in the shitty looking 2012 version, Mirror Mirror.

Give me a fucking break. Super 8 should have The Tree of Life's spot. That is outrageous.
However, out of those that are still in the running I hope Rise of the Planet of the Apes makes the final 5 and takes home the statue. The effects in that movie were incredible.

I would say let's start off with a bang...
You know for the first post of 2012, but I honestly got nothing. Not today. The only stuff that's really swirling around are "best/worst of" lists and "most anticipated" lists.
The poll in this week's edition of EW shows that The Hunger Games is the most anticipated film of 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises closely following. A lot of people are starting to take The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo seriously and claim it will be a top Oscar contender (which I hope is true). It also moved from 5th to 3rd on the box office chart still trailing behind Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Sherlock Holmes 2.
Other than that... it's New Year's Day. I brought it in safely and well and I hope you did too. Let's see what can be accomplished.
