American Horror Story: Coven gets a release date

The third installment of the FX drama series American Horror Story has an official release date of October 9th. The third season, appropriately titled Coven, focuses on witchcraft and takes place over a period of decades in New Orleans.

On deck to appear is Kathy Bates playing a serial killer named Madam LaLaurie. She kept slaves captive in her home in the 1800's. The cast also includes Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Alexandra Breckenridge, Patti LuPone, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Denis O'Hare, Frances Conroy, and Jessica Lange.

In addition to the release date, we also have some new teasers and the official plot outline. Already I am thinking this looks better than Asylum. I might have to watch Coven.

“Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.“

Emma Roberts joins American Horror Story: Coven

One thing I will give American Horror Story credit for... they manage to attract semi-popular film actors to do television. That is rare.

Emma Roberts, aka Julia Roberts' niece, has joined the cast for the third installment of American Horror Story. Roberts is evidently going to play the role of a self-centered party girl. The third season, called Coven, is centered around a coven of witches. Others set to star are Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Lily Rabe.

Roberts has been seen in Scream 4, It's Kind of a Funny Story, Celeste & Jesse Forever, and The Art of Getting By. If you saw Scream 4 you know she is capable of playing the crazies.

Gabourey Sidibe joins American Horror Story: Coven

Gabourey Sidibe, most recognized for her Oscar nominated performance in Precious, has joined the cast of American Horror Story: Coven. She currently is on The Big C with Laura Linney. Coven is set to begin filming in New Orleans before too long.

American Horror Story gets its new name

Season 3 of FX's drama American Horror Story has its official name which also hints at the theme. Season 3 will now be known as American Horror Story: Coven. We know this season will be female centered which leads even more to hint that this season will be about witches. However, there is no word on exactly what time frame this will take place in.

So far we have casting confirmations for Kathy Bates along with show veterans Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters.

Kathy Bates to have villain role in American Horror Story

It seems like FX is trying to bring back some Annie Wilkes. It was confirmed this week that Kathy Bates has joined the cast of the FX drama American Horror Story for season 3 where she will play Jessica Lange's best friend turned enemy.
Aside from Jessica Lange, AHS veterans also returning for season 3 are Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, and Sarah Paulson. This will also mark a reunion for Conroy and Bates who previously starred together in HBO's Six Feet Under.


I quit watching American Horror Story after season 1 primarily because I hated how it ended and that it was so damn predictable. I guessed the show's ending 3 episodes before the finale. I didn't watch Asylum but I will probably give it a try when it's on Netflix or something. If I like Asylum I might give season 3 a chance simply because I love Kathy Bates. I mean, it's impossible to forget scenes like this one...
