The Devil's Carnival - only chapter one?

A new article on Bloody-Disgusting not only features details of the roadshow (I got my ticket) but it points out an interesting thing on the new poster; "{episode one}" Does this mean that this is only the first part of a bigger project? We'll see how I feel after seeing it in May but as of right now I am sure hoping so.

I also noticed how it is now listed as 55 minutes instead of 45, but I don't think that is a big deal.

If you want to go see the road show buy your tickets because as the article states, they are starting to sell out. When I bought mine last week the $40 Ringmaster package was already sold out for my city. I opted for the $20 Sinner package because a couple weeks prior I dropped $50 on Garbage tickets, but I am excited. Let's all go and have a party. =^D

Problems for The Human Centipede 3 (thank God)

Apparently the "massive ego" of Dieter Laser (aka, the doctor from the first Human Centipede film) is causing problems for the third installment, The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence. According to producer Ilona Six, Laser agreed to the third film and is now demanding unacceptable script changes. As a result Laser has refused to play the part with only 7 weeks until principal photography. Director Tom Six is now planning to sue Dieter Laser and says he will just postpone production until later this year if necessary.

However... Dieter Laser has since released a statement in regards to the legal issue Tom Six has chosen to create:

"It's very simple: I loved the story when it was told, got the contract and the promise to have the script in 4 to 6 weeks. When it arrived – half a year later and only after the official announcement – I didn’t like the realization at all, couldn't identify with the character the way it was written and developed immediately and enthusiastically in a day and night marathon a version full of concrete and practical suggestions which would enable me to play the lead full throttle – same procedure as with Dr. Heiter – but this time it also would have had some unavoidable effects to the dramatic structure. That was too much for Tom and since he couldn't live with my suggestions and I as a method actor couldn’t identify with his version, I told him that I couldn’t see any other way than that he would have to ‘change horses’. That's it.”

I personally hope that this permanently stalls production and potentially cancels it because The Human Centipede movies are complete pieces of shit, no pun intended.  Tom Six needs a padded room and a therapist as far as I'm concerned.

Liam Neeson will be in The Dark Knight Rises

He had apparently been seen on set and now it has been confirmed. Liam Neeson will reprise his role as Ra's Al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises. It's listed as a cameo so he probably won't appear for too long.

Does this surprise me? No.
Does this excite me? Meh. Batman Begins is my least favorite of the Nolan films so far.

On the Road to play at Cannes

We speculated it and it's happening. Ugh, I want to see this movie ffs. We still don't have a US release date either.

Other movies screening at Cannes 2012 seem to be Cosmopolis, Moonrise Kingdom, Cogan's Trade, and Rust & Bone.

MGM officially selects Chloe Moretz for the lead in Carrie

I posted a blog about this in the past week (http://fort-kick-ass.blogspot.com/2012/03/carrie-re-make-casting-narrowed-down-to.html) and my main concern then was that Chloe Moretz might be a little too young for the role. I am still thinking that, but I believe in the girl. I have seen more stellar performances by her so far than most actresses in their 20's and 30's dish out. She can make it work and hopefully the negotiations lead to her accepting the role and signing a contract. I'd much rather have Chloe than Haley Bennett.

Trey Songz to make acting debut in Texas Chainsaw reboot

I don't know what is funnier... the fact that Trey Songz is going to be in a horror movie (that will no doubt be terrible) or learning that he was in The Preacher's Wife.

Anyway, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is set to be released by Lionsgate on October 5th. Will I see it? Probably. I saw the reboots for Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Might as well keep the tradition up. Will I enjoy it? I highly doubt it.

Bully to be released unrated

The Weinstein Company has attempted their final blow to the MPAA for the R-rating the upcoming film Bully received. The MPAA cited language as their reasoning to give Bully an R-rating. There have been petitions and appeals to try and get the film knocked down to PG-13 with no positive result. TWC's response to this mess? They are releasing the movie with an NR status (aka, unrated). Similar to NC-17 this means a lot of theaters won't carry it because there is no structured rating. However, I think that also might change. The buzz and popularity this film is getting before it's even released might persuade a lot of theaters that wouldn't normally carry it to screen it in at least one theater, even if it's only 2-3 screenings a day.

I applaud The Weinstein Company and the film's director, Lee Hirsch, and plan on seeing this movie even if I have to drive a little bit to find a theater carrying it. From what I have seen and heard so far I think it's a must see for adults and children. This company has said through their actions what most people should have said a long time ago... fuck the MPAA.

True Blood - Season 5 promos begin

These are... interesting.

The Hunger Games opens with $155 million

It earned a spot in the top 3 box office openings of all time trailing behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($169.2) and The Dark Knight ($158.4). This also means it smashed all 4 existing Twilight Saga openings, including New Moon, thus smashing any and all comparisons between the two stories. At least that's my opinion. The Hunger Games is better and this is another piece of the puzzle to prove it. Apparently, it has also become Lionsgate's highest grossing film to date.

And this is only the first movie. We still have Catching Fire and Mockingjay. =^D


We'll see if this record will hold up once The Dark Knight Rises is released. I think it has a chance, especially since we don't have the international numbers in just yet, but we'll wait and see.

The Hunger Games - Review

I'm just going to start out by saying this will have spoilers, so don't read on if you don't want to read anything about the movie and/or the book.












We good? Good.
So... I did like the movie. I want to come out and say that. It was very well done and pretty well acted. I feel like the first half with the reaping and the training was the closest to the book this movie got, though. The games were too easy and had a lot of omissions and were very fast paced. They also had close to no explanation to little details that were in the book. They just kind of threw the audience in there. My boyfriend hadn't read the book prior to seeing the movie so I had to explain a lot to him after we got out of the theater.
I said the first half was quite close to the book and I mean that. I loved the way they did the reaping and I loved the farewell to Katniss and Peeta. The arrival at the Capitol was probably where it started to stray for me. I liked the interviews with Caesar, but I didn't like how they introduced the tributes. They made some of their names prominent but ignored others.

My main issue with this movie was the games. They were very fast paced and they were really easy. The book made the games seem legitimately brutal. The tributes lost weight, they got hurt, they struggled for food and water, etc.. In the movie everything just kind of seemed readily available to them and by the time the games were over, Katniss and Peeta seemed quite healthy and well off. And what the fuck, Peeta still has his leg. I don't understand that at all.

As far as the violence goes, people that are complaining about the PG-13 rating and claim people shouldn't take their teens and children to the movie are full of shit and they obviously didn't watch it. I was expecting a lot more violence and blood and it just wasn't there. You obviously see kids die but oddly enough I think the most graphic death was Glimmer when she gets stung by the Tracker Jackers. You see Rue get stabbed and you see Katniss kill Marvel with the arrow, but everything else was more implied with sound cues and very fast editing. The way most of the tributes were killed at the Cornucopia was very quick and you don't really see a whole lot. If you are worried about taking 11 and 12 year olds to this movie I wouldn't be too concerned. Younger than that? Maybe not. Not only would the violence that is there creep them out a bit but the overall political tone to the film would probably fly right over them. Not to mention how hard it is to keep kids sitting still for almost 2.5 hours. The movie is quite long.


Overall I did like the movie. I feel like my disappointment about any part of it is just because I read the book first. If I wouldn't have read the book before the movie I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more. I look forward to movies for Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

Carrie remake casting narrowed down to two

Chloe Moretz or Haley Bennett.

Yes. In the remake of Carrie (which is a mistake, imo) the casting has been narrowed down to these two actresses; 15-year old Chloe Moretz and 24-year old Haley Bennett.
After seeing what Chloe did with Let Me In I'm not necessarily opposed to her returning to the horror genre. She is also set to be Emily in the upcoming Emily the Strange project and is in Dark Shadows, so I don't know if choosing her would necessarily be bad. I do feel that she's a bit young for the role, though. Sissy Spacek was 27-years old, ffs.
I don't really know anything about Haley Bennett so I'll have to research a bit. By the look of her I wouldn't know what to think when it comes to Carrie. I'd cast her as one of the other girls over casting her as Carrie White.

And on a side note, LOL at Jodie Foster being approached to play Carrie's mother. That is just hilarious to me.

The Hunger Games sets a box office record

The Hunger Games earned $19.74 million at the box office last night, or this morning, via midnight premiere screenings. That set a box office record for the most earned at midnight by a non-sequel film. Overall it sits at #7 of the highest grossing midnight premieres.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 teaser before The Hunger Games

I, unfortunately, didn't see a midnight screening of The Hunger Games. I have to wait until Saturday night to see it because of work, but I have already seen the "big" teaser for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Why did I search to find a rip of it online instead of waiting? Curiosity and I needed a laugh.

I won't link the clip I saw because I have no doubt it will get taken down before too long and I don't feel like continuously searching to find another one to replace it. If you don't plan on seeing The Hunger Games this weekend, and don't want to wait until Monday when it premieres online, just go to the Breaking Dawn Part 2 forum on IMDB and fish through the links all those people keep posting. That's how I found one that was still active, tbh.

To spoil the teaser...

Basically it starts with Bella's typical voice over saying something like "after 18 years I finally know I can shine." She holds her hand up in the air and you see what the world looks like to her as a vampire now. You see her running through the woods all fast, you see Jacob saying he didn't expect her to seem so normal, and Edward holds her and is like, "we're the same temperature now." You see Bella's red, vampire eyes and the end of it shows a deer walking through the woods and she pops out from behind a tree. Basically if you read the book you understand what is going on with the deer. If you didn't, Edward is teaching her how to hunt.
That's it, guys. When they said it was just going to be a teaser they weren't kidding. The only comment I really have and I said it after I saw Breaking Dawn Part 1 is that Bill Condon must not have liked the fact that Stephenie Meyer's vampires sparkled because they do not in his Twilight movies. In BD1 they were on a tropical island with Edward in swim suits, tank tops, and shorts and he never sparkled in the sun. In this teaser, Bella is holding her hand up in the sun and Edward's skin is exposed and they don't sparkle. I remember watching New Moon and thinking it was ridiculous how much Edward sparkled. If he walked past a window that had light coming in he looked like a fucking crystal statue. Maybe it's just because I haven't seen a high quality version of it yet, but the inconsistency is annoying.
