Zero Dark Thirty named best film of 2012

The National Board of Review, the second major critics organization, released their list of 2012 winners for achievement in film. Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) took home Best Film for Zero Dark Thirty. Bigelow also took Best Director for the same film. Zero Dark Thirty also took Best Actress for Jessica Chastain.

Aside from the major success of Zero Dark Thirty, Bradley Cooper took Best Actor for Silver Linings Playbook, Best Animated Feature went to Wreck-It Ralph, Best Adapted Screenplay went to David O. Russell for Silver Linings Playbook, and Best Original Screenplay went to Rian Johnson for Looper.

2012 Governors Awards draw in Oscar hopefuls

This weekend was the Governors Awards in Los Angeles. It is an event that gives a lot of foreshadowing to the Academy Award possibilities and gives potential Oscar hopefuls the chance to expose themselves to the press and promote their films.
According to EW there was a general consensus hinting at Best Picture possibilities; those being Life of Pi, Argo, Les Miserables, Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, and Silver Linings Playbook. Personally I think those are all possibles just due to the media buzz around them, specifically Life of Pi and Lincoln, but I would like to at least see The Dark Knight Rises on the list. It deserves to be there. I'm going to be pissed if The Hobbit swoops in at the last minute and takes it.

Apart from Best Picture buzz there is a lot of speculation for the actor and actress categories, both lead and supporting. In attendance were Kristen Stewart, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper, John Hawkes, Amy Adams, Helen Hunt, and quite a few others who have Award buzz movies out. Stewart and Adams have On the Road, Hanks has Cloud Atlas, Cooper has Silver Linings Playbook, and Hunt and Hawkes have The Sessions. I am still kind of baffled at the fact that Kristen Stewart could potentially be nominated for On the Road, but I still haven't seen the movie so I can't really comment. She should have been nominated in 2010 for Welcome to the Rileys but that's just me. Same goes for Bradley Cooper. I guess I just never figured him for an Oscar nominated actor. That is if he is nominated.

We have another new trailer for the upcoming film On the Road starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart. It also showcases the US release date of December 2012.







I'm still excited for this movie.

TIFF 2012 list revealed

UPDATE: Kristen Stewart drops out of Cali

EDIT: It appears this has been confirmed. A statement from the studio is set to appear shortly. It remains unknown if she will stay on as an executive producer of the film but it does seem that she has officially dropped out of the project in terms of being the leading lady. No official reason has been given yet.

Kristen Stewart has reportedly dropped out of the upcoming Nick Cassavetes film, Cali. She was announced for this movie a couple months ago. A couple weeks ago they announced Alex Pettyfer is playing Stewart's con-artist boyfriend. Along with this rumor is was reported that Amber Heard was approached as a possible replacement for Stewart.

I said before that I was a bit afraid of Cali but I have honestly gotten kinda excited. I like the plot and it sounds a like it could be a fun one to watch. This rumor breaks out due to Stewart's cheating scandal. According to sources (aka, traitor friends) she is "extremely depressed" after her fall out with Robert Pattinson and Rupert Sanders and simply doesn't want to do the film anymore. It was also reported that she was so depressed she wasn't showering but that's beside the point. I would hope she'd be a big girl and wouldn't let this take a toll on her career, and neither should Robert Pattinson, but you can't credit people for much of anything these days.


It also appears that she has dropped out of her scheduled appearance for the London premiere of On the Road. The gossip rags and sources (I apologize lol) are stating embarrassment and depression as the reason for the announcement. I guess it's good we won't get the film until December. This cheating thing might all be blown over by then. Not to mention the Twilight press will be over. Now that is a press tour worth paying attention to. Not for Twilight but for the laughs... if she even shows up. She could try and drop those appearances, too.
And while I'm at it I feel the need to mention that it was announced last week that Stewart was attached to the upcoming film adaptation of Lie Down in Darkness. I wasn't too happy about it so I guess at this point it's possible she might even drop that project as well. This girl seems to be willing to let her career get flushed over this thing.

UPDATE: On The Road international trailer debuts

The international trailer for the film adaptation of On the Road surfaced. It isn't all that different in terms of dialogue from the first trailer we received prior to Cannes but it's different enough. I usually prefer international trailers to US trailers for some reason. They always seem to be better put together.
On the Road stars Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart. It is based off the classic Jack Kerouac novel of the same title. There is no US release date officially set just yet. I read a rumor of December 2012 but I don't think Sundance Selects and IFC have confirmed that.
UPDATE (8/7): IFC and Sundance Selects have set a release date for the film. We will see it here in the US on December 21, 2012. It shares the weekend with This is 40, The Impossible, and Jack Reacher. I highly doubt On the Road will be getting a wide release, though. As much as I would love a wide release it probably isn't going to happen because it is such an independent-like film. Unless it does really well it might have to wait for DVD or an early On Demand engagement.

New 1-min clip of On the Road

There is a new extended clip of On the Road thanks to the press surrounding Cannes 2012. If features Sam Riley (Sal), Kristen Stewart (Marylou), and Garrett Hedlund (Dean).

I have been following this one, as you may know, because I really liked the book. The casting still kind of confuses me but I am rolling with it. The movie is almost 2 years old already so it's not like you can bitch too much. I am currently re-reading the book because it has been like 5-6 years since I last read it and I am quite enjoying myself. I can't wait to see the movie whenever it is available. Rumors are saying we will get it in the US this fall via IFC, AMC, and Sundance Selects. The distribution isn't the rumor but the release date is.

IFC and Sundance Selects to distribute On the Road

This is pretty good news. IFC Films and Sundance Selects have acquired distribution rights for On the Road. There still is no US release date but with this distribution pickup rumors of this fall are swirling around. The film will be shown at Cannes 2012.

I am a fan of the book and people are saying the movie is fantastic so yes... I am very excited. If it is that good a fall 2012 release is a very positive thing when it comes to the award season. It's not too late but it's not too early. Let's hope!

Cannes 2012 competition list released

The competition list for the Cannes Film Festival 2012 has been released. The festival runs from May 16th to the 27th in France. 

I have been waiting for this. I also must mention that I am happy to see that On the Road is going to be screened. Hopefully that is an indication that it will get a US release date soon.

We speculated it and it's happening. Ugh, I want to see this movie ffs. We still don't have a US release date either.

I hope we are all spared from the ridiculous about of Twihards and Kristen Stewart fans that will see this movie just because she is in it and then complain when they think it's weird. Read the original book, people. It's amazing.

On the Road poster surfaces

I have been excited to see more about On the Road. It's already almost 2 years old and no one has even seen it yet. I loved the book so I am curious to see what they did with it and how.

There are rumors swirling around that the film is going to be shown at Cannes 2012 and it already has gotten a September release date for the UK. No word on a US release date and/or when we are getting a trailer. Hopefully it's soon.
