Darren Lynn Bousman to direct sci-fi film
The so-called Predator meets Call of Duty sci-fi action flick, Apex, has enlisted Darren Lynn Bousman to direct. Bousman is somewhat of a horror favorite as he's directed three of the seven Saw films (II-IV), Repo! The Genetic Opera, the underground indie hit The Devil's Carnival, and the modern remake of Mother's Day.
Apex follows a unit that is transported to another world while deployed to North Korea to confiscate a WMD. After being transported the unit must aid in the fight against an alien species. Bousman has already stated that his vision for this film is a 1980's action style with modern combat technique.
The script is being written by James E. Cavanaugh and will be produced by Aaron Ray and Joe Di Maio.
I personally think Bousman has a lot to bring to the table. Two of my favorite Saw movies were led by him and I absolutely love Repo! The Genetic Opera. It should be interesting to see him tackle this genre.

The Devil's Carnival episodes 2-3 complete
After the pretty decent success of Darren Lynn Bousman's short film effort, The Devil's Carnival, many have been pondering the progress and fate of the early announced sequels. The film's Facebook page announced tonight that the scripts for the second and third "episodes" are completed. Along with that good news, the music for the second episode is also finished and it will be a full length film, not a short film. Both scripts have been written by Terrance Zdunich who played Satan in the first episode.
However, there is a catch. Due to the higher production cost and longer scheduling we will still have to wait. I would assume they are doing what they do best and fundraising like crazy. I would also expect the cast to all return given the cult following the project gained as a result of the road tour and the surprise Comic-Con event. Long story short, there is no time table for the second and third.

The Devil's Carnival: Episode 2 Teaser Trailer
I'm a little behind on this but oh well. We have our first look at the second chapter of The Devil's Carnival. We were introduced to The Devil's Carnival this past spring and summer with the road show put on by director Darren Lynn Bousman and co-creator Terrance Zdunich. I saw the road show in Denver and I was impressed for the most part. It was enjoyable. I'm intrigued enough to continue with this thing.
No word just yet on if there will be another road show or how this is going to be released, but I will do my best to keep everyone updated.

The Barrens gets a DVD and theatrical release
Darren Lynn Bousman's newest film, The Barrens, finally has release dates. It will come out on DVD/Blu-Ray on October 9th and will have a limited theatrical engagement starting September 28th. A TUGG campaign for the theatrical distribution is being planned as well.
The Barrens stars Stephen Moyer, Shawn Ashmore, Mia Kirshner, Erik Knudsen, and J Larose. It is about "a man who takes his family on a camping trip to the more than 1 million acres of dense forest known as the New Jersey Pine Barrens, where he becomes convinced they’re being stalked by the legendary winged monster that looks like a deformed hybrid of several different animals."
I think it sounds interesting but they are stupid to think people will run around to find a theater carrying this movie when they can just wait a week and watch it on DVD. I know I will be waiting.

The Devil's Carnival to be screened at Comic Con 2012
The Devil's Carnival has been announced for Comic Con International 2012 in San Diego, CA. The itinerary looks similar to that of the road shows that took place this spring (movie screening, cast Q&A, costume contests, etc.).
I went to the road show in Denver this past May (my review of the night is here) and I think it's a fun time for any horror fan, especially those who liked Repo! The Genetic Opera. I felt a bit out of place but I did enjoy myself. Also bear in mind that this is only chapter one of this installment of The Devil's Carnival. They are working on more material for future chapters so anyone going to SD Comic Con who is interested and wants to see what it's like should check it out. Never know, the future installments might gain a little more press and popularity. I think the road tour was a success. Denver was close to a sell out and I heard other cities had packed theaters as well.

The Devil's Carnival - Review
So I went to the road show for The Devil's Carnival last night in Denver. The basics of the road show is to attend a screening of the film with "like-minded weirdos" as director Darren Bousman put it. There was a fire performer, a costume contest, and an intro based off the previous Bousman and Zdunich film, Repo! The Genetic Opera, and a Q&A session after the film was screened. The special guests from the film were director Darren Bousman, writer Terrance Zdunich (Lucifer in TDC and also played Graverobber in Repo), Emilie Autumn (Painted Doll), and Marc Senter (Scorpion). There was also an autograph meet & greet after the show but I didn't want to buy anything so I left a little early. The trick, which is genius, is you can't get anything signed or meet the people without buying something TDC related at the merch table. They wouldn't allow anything Repo! The Genetic Opera or Saw themed. I thought that was fair tbh.
If you read this blog you know by now that I have been following this since they announced the project and the 12-minute teaser was released months ago. When I saw the road tour was coming to my city I was excited and bought a ticket so I could see the movie. All the other bells and whistles that came with it weren't really priority on my list. I just wanted to see the movie.
With that said, I thought it was... interesting. It was definitely hellish and full of sinful behavior as they promote and promise with the advertising. The film as a whole was about an hour and has a total of 12 songs including solo songs from Terrance Zdunich, Ivan Moody, Marc Senter, and Emilie Autumn. It is centered around three people who wind up in hell and inevitably, The Devil's Carnival. The three victims are Sean Patrick Flanery, Briana Evigan, and Jessica Lowndes. The songs and the basic course of events are based upon Aesop's Fables and each of the characters has their own path and their own problem; suicide & grief, greed & gluttony, and mistrust & lying. The other characters who were slowly announced over the course of the past months, such as Ogre and Alexa Vega, were all players in the carnival and had dealings with the specific characters. As a whole, for what it is, I thought it was well done. The set design wasn't lacking, the make-up was fantastic, and the songs were well put together. And like everyone on Bloody-Disgusting noticed a while back, this is only chapter one. Bousman said chapter two is completely written and they are close to finishing chapter three. He also said they hope to have chapter one available on DVD within 3-4 months but there wasn't a promise. They are independently funding everything so he said the actual production of DVD's is a big decision when it comes to cost.
In terms of the road show, I honestly I felt a bit out of place. I am a religious person and as a result didn't participate in all the "HAIL SATAN" chants that were started and the playful catchy tune "666." Why did I go then? Like I said above, I wanted to see the movie. I am a big fan of what Bousman did with the Saw movies and I loved Repo! The Genetic Opera. I didn't get to see the Repo road show so I wanted to attend this one. I don't regret going but I did feel a but out of my element. The flame performer was cool even though he set himself on fire twice and the costume contest was fun. A little girl won the contest last night and got a signed poster. I would say if the road show was coming near you to go see it, but Denver was one of the last stops. Most of the other shows have already happened so maybe next time. It is an experience and you get to see a cool movie that not a lot of other people get to see. They make you promise not to film or take photos during the movie in an attempt to keep it under wraps. If you see someone with a camera out you are instructed to take it from them, delete the file, and give it back after the movie is over. I don't think anyone in Denver got busted but I was too busy watching the movie.
Overall I'd say it was decent and well done. I liked Repo! The Genetic Opera a lot more but I also have to remind myself that Repo was a Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures production. The Devil's Carnival is a full independent film that was filmed in 7 days. You have to take it for what it is.

The Devil's Carnival - only chapter one?
A new article on Bloody-Disgusting not only features details of the roadshow (I got my ticket) but it points out an interesting thing on the new poster; "{episode one}" Does this mean that this is only the first part of a bigger project? We'll see how I feel after seeing it in May but as of right now I am sure hoping so.
I also noticed how it is now listed as 55 minutes instead of 45, but I don't think that is a big deal.

If you want to go see the road show buy your tickets because as the article states, they are starting to sell out. When I bought mine last week the $40 Ringmaster package was already sold out for my city. I opted for the $20 Sinner package because a couple weeks prior I dropped $50 on Garbage tickets, but I am excited. Let's all go and have a party. =^D

The Devil's Carnival coming to a city near you
Including mine for a change!
Basically they are taking The Devil's Carnival on the road for a tour. This tour, which includes 3 different levels of tickets, will feature meet and greets, costume contests, sing a longs, burlesque performances, and of course a screening of the film.
I am super excited because this is going to be taking place in Denver on May 6th, so I am going to try my absolute best to go.

Mother's Day remake is basically direct to DVD
A little disappointing but after seeing that happened with the other Darren Lynn Bousman project, 11-11-11, it isn't much of a surprise.
Basically his remake of Mother's Day will be getting a limited theatrical run in LA, Chicago, and NYC on May 4th, 2012 and will be released on DVD/Blu-Ray on May 8th, 2012. This stars Rebecca DeMornay, Deborah Ann Woll, Jamie King, Brianna Evigan, Patrick John Flueger, Shawn Ashmore, and Lyriq Bent.

It has been announced that Repo! The Genetic Opera stars Terrence Zdunich, Alexa Vega, Ogre, and Paul Sorvino along with Marc Senter have now joined the cast for The Devil's Carnival. Other cast members announced previously are Emilie Autumn, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Bill Moseley (who was also in Repo!). Taryn Manning will also not be appearing in the project despite being previously confirmed.
I'm getting pretty excited for this based on the cast alone. I hope Darren Lynn Bousman finds some redemption with people.
