UPDATE: Meta Golding cast in Catching Fire

Lionsgate released a statement revealing that Meta Golding (CSI, Criminal Minds) has been cast in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Enobaria, a Capitol mentor and former winner from District 2.
I don't know much about Meta Golding and I don't honestly think I have ever seen her in anything before so I can't really comment on this one. I will say that I liked Enobaria in the books, though. 



SPOILER ALERT: I will describe a little bit about this character but it contains spoilers from Mockingjay, so if you haven't read the books and are just watching the movies I would refrain from reading after the jump.

Arrested Development cast returning for new episodes

All nine main characters who appeared in the prematurely canceled, and awesome, TV show Arrested Development have been announced to return for the new season to premiere on Netflix in 2013.

Yes, they are all set to return! Ron Howard is also reprising his role as the narrator. Any returning side characters, such as Barry Zuckercorn (Henry Winkler) or Lucille 2 (Liza Minelli), haven't been announced yet but I have no doubt they will be thrown in at some point. The side characters made the show.

This is great news. I can't wait for this to premiere. It is going to be fantastic.

My most anticipated films of 2013

Seeing that it is August already I thought I would make a list of my most anticipated, and/or most mentionable, films that are set to be released in 2013. Please note the dates are subject to change as we learned with the moves of Gangster Squad and The Great Gatsby. Also note that not all of these I am excited for. Rupert Sanders still might return for SWATH sequel

After news broke of Kristen Stewart being caught out in broad daylight cheating with Rupert Sanders, the married director of Snow White and the Huntsman, a lot of questions began circling around the movie community. Due to the fact that Universal had already given a sequel the green light after Snow White's impressive box office numbers and had hinted at Sanders returning to direct, along with Stewart to return as well, the main question was... will this even happen?

I highly doubt reuniting the two is a wise choice for both Sanders' marriage and/or Stewart's relationship status with Robert Pattinson. With that said, it has been hinted by numerous sources that Sanders and Stewart are both still slated to return for the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. There is no timetable for production and I doubt anyone has even worked on a script yet but it is still happening. HOWEVER, Stewart is bound by contract to return for sequels while Sanders is not. They could easily find another director and might choose to do so. For the sake of public appearances and making their employees comfortable, Universal might choose to replace him. Not to mention his wife, Liberty Ross, is apparently forbidding him from returning if he wants to keep his marriage intact. Bummer dude.
Regarding people questioning if the sequel is even going to happen I would say open your eyes. Universal isn't going to let this one get away. The film had a worldwide box office gross of $309,394,227. They probably think, like I do, that Stewart's fans will still show up at the movie theaters to see her movies despite them claiming to boycott her future projects because their Robsten fantasies were destroyed.


As you might be able to tell I am still finding this whole situation extremely hilarious. Forgive me.

The Great Gatsby pushed back to 2013

The upcoming 3D film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic, The Great Gatsby, has been pushed from Christmas 2012 to summer 2013 by Warner Bros. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, and Isla Fisher and is directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet).

WB president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman released this statement about the scheduling move:

"Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann's incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald's American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exiting way. We think movieogers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible."

*sigh*
This is why we can't have nice things.

UPDATE: On The Road international trailer debuts

The international trailer for the film adaptation of On the Road surfaced. It isn't all that different in terms of dialogue from the first trailer we received prior to Cannes but it's different enough. I usually prefer international trailers to US trailers for some reason. They always seem to be better put together.
On the Road stars Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart. It is based off the classic Jack Kerouac novel of the same title. There is no US release date officially set just yet. I read a rumor of December 2012 but I don't think Sundance Selects and IFC have confirmed that.
UPDATE (8/7): IFC and Sundance Selects have set a release date for the film. We will see it here in the US on December 21, 2012. It shares the weekend with This is 40, The Impossible, and Jack Reacher. I highly doubt On the Road will be getting a wide release, though. As much as I would love a wide release it probably isn't going to happen because it is such an independent-like film. Unless it does really well it might have to wait for DVD or an early On Demand engagement.

Christopher Eccleston cast in Thor: The Dark World

It has been revealed that Christopher Eccleston will be replacing Mads Mikkelson for the role of Malekith the Accursed in Thor: The Dark World, the upcoming sequel to the 2011 Marvel film Thor.

You might recognize Eccleston from Gone in 60 Seconds, Dr. Who, and 28 Days Later. He usually plays villains, to my understanding, and is British. That's about all I know about the guy. I was happy with Mikkelson but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. So yeah...

Thor: The Dark World is scheduled to hit theaters November 8, 2013 with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston all reprising their respective roles.

Jimmy Fallon to host the Oscars?

Apparently Jimmy Fallon is in talks to host the 85th Academy Awards in 2013. There are others being considered, or so they say, but seeing that they don't name them I highly doubt they are that exciting.

I really like Jimmy Fallon and I bet he would be fine, but as far as I'm concerned the only Oscar hosts that do anything right are Hugh Jackman and Billy Crystal. I don't know what to expect anymore. All I know is that James Franco and Anne Hathaway were awful.

Paranormal Activity 4 Official Trailer

I just don't understand anymore. These aren't good movies. I haven't liked a single one of them.

UPDATE: Lynn Cohen cast in Catching Fire

It has been announced that Lynn Cohen (Sex and the City, Munich) will play the role of Mags, the 80-year old Hunger Games victor, in Catching Fire. Previously rumored for the role of Mags was Melissa Leo but that was quickly shut down and dismissed about a week or two ago.

Kristen Stewart lands lead in Lie Down in Darkness

Kristen Stewart has landed yet another coveted role for the upcoming film adaptation of William Styron's 1951 novel, Lie Down in Darkness. Stewart will play the lead role of Peyton Loftis. There is no timetable for this film just yet and the only other thing we know is the film will be directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart). Well, that and the basic plot...

"Lie Down in Darkness follows the story of Peyton Loftis, a young girl with intense physical beauty that makes her the object of her frigid mother’s jealous hatred and the target of her father’s incestuous, alcoholic lust."

I had read several weeks ago that this might happen and then I read Jennifer Lawrence was also in the running for this role. My mind was temporarily put at ease until I read this. I would have much rather had Lawrence in this movie than Stewart but shit happens. In Kristen Stewart's defense she seems to produce quality work when she is portraying damaged, broken people so there might be hope. I always mention it but she did it in Welcome to the Rileys and it was fantastic. Here's to hoping this won't be a mistake.

2014-2015 likely for Prometheus sequel

It has been announced that there will indeed be a sequel to Ridley Scott's Prometheus. However, it is projected for a 2014 or 2015 release at this point. All we really know right now is both Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are under contract and will return for a sequel and that Damon Lindelof, the co-writer of Prometheus, may not return to write the sequel due to scheduling conflicts.

Like we didn't see this one coming.

X-Men sequel finally has a title

Up until now the sequel for X-Men: First Class has been promptly referred to as X-Men: First Class 2. We now have the official title for the film along with some minor updates. The official title is X-Men: Days of Future Past, Matthew Vaughn is for sure returning to direct, and it is possible that this film will serve as somewhat of a crossover between films. X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer suggests that it could follow the comic arc that takes the mutants into the 1980's.
