Days of Future Past trailer to premiere October 29th

We now have word, along with some first footage, that the first trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past will premiere next week on October 29th. This comes the same day we received a first trailer for fellow Marvel film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (you can view it here).

X-Men: Days of Future Past follows Wolverine as his consciousness is sent back to 1973 to help Professor X, Magneto, and the rest of the X-Men stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots who are programmed to eliminate mutants.
Seeing that this serves as both a sequel and prequel to an extent, we will be seeing a lot of familiar characters portrayed by the same actors we have seen before. Returning actors for Days of Future Past include Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, and Ellen Page along with those returning from X-Men: First Class. We also have new cast members like Peter Dinklage and Omar Sy. Basically, Days of Future Past is sure to be interesting.

And like I said, there is some minor footage you can watch right now. Apparently it is the small amount that was shown at Comic-Con in July. You can watch it at the X-Men Movies Instagram.

Bryan Singer will replace Matthew Vaughn for X-Men sequel

With the departure of Matthew Vaughn happened for the upcoming First Class sequel happened there were questions about who would step in to fill the director's chair. We now have confirmation that Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) will be directing X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Production is set to begin early in 2013 for a release of July 18, 2014.

Matthew Vaughn out of X-Men: First Class sequel

With no explanation at this moment it has been announced that Matthew Vaughn has left the director's chair for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Despite his departure the cast is still intact, including Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender, and they are still aiming for the July 2014 release. There are replacements being thrown around already and the one at the top of the list is Bryan Singer.

Singer directed and wrote X-Men and X-2 along with having a writing and producing credit for X-Men: First Class, so his involvement wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Hopefully he steps in to fill the empty chair.

X-Men sequel finally has a title

Up until now the sequel for X-Men: First Class has been promptly referred to as X-Men: First Class 2. We now have the official title for the film along with some minor updates. The official title is X-Men: Days of Future Past, Matthew Vaughn is for sure returning to direct, and it is possible that this film will serve as somewhat of a crossover between films. X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer suggests that it could follow the comic arc that takes the mutants into the 1980's.

X-Men: First Class sequel pushed to January 2013

Due to scheduling conflicts with the upcoming "it" girl Jennifer Lawrence, filming of the sequel to X-Men: First Class has been pushed to January 2013 as she will be filming the sequel to The Hunger Games this fall. Lawrence is reprising her role as Mystique in the X-Men film and is also reprising the role of Katniss Everdeen in Catching Fire. After much speculation it was also confirmed that Matthew Vaughn will return to direct the X-Men sequel.

Along with filming approaching for both of these films she is also busy with promo for The Hunger Games along with upcoming promo for a new film, The House at the End of the Street. Jennifer Lawrence is indeed a busy gal.

Matthew Vaughn will return for X-Men sequel

This was speculated and rumored but now it is official. 20th Century Fox has hired Matthew Vaughn to direct a sequel to his 2011 film, X-Men: First Class. Also returning are James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

I'm curious as to how they will do this exactly. I am really excited that it's happening because I loved X-Men: First Class so much, but seeing that we already have five X-Men movies (X-Men, X-2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and X-Men: First Class) somewhere there will be a wire that gets crossed or cut completely. That is unless they are going to completely ignore what happened with X-Men 1-3 which would be fine with me, minus the first. Then again, X-Men: First Class already crossed some wires and confused things a bit (specifically with Alex Summers and Beast) so maybe it really doesn't matter that much. First Class seemed to follow with X-Men Origins: Wolverine more than the first three movies.
Which speaking of Wolverine... he might have to be in the First Class sequel, right? Depending on what the timeline is that might work.

Bring it on, Mr. Vaughn.

X-Men: First Class

Now this was a good Marvel movie.

In terms of tying it into the other X-Men movies and the X-Men universe in general there were continuity errors, specifically with Beast and Havok, but you are able to set them aside to enjoy the movie. Magneto was a total and complete badass and I loved every minute of it. Michael Fassbender was the perfect choice. Professor X was also very well done and well cast.
The one thing I will admit I did not like was Mystique. I don't know if it was Jennifer Lawrence or what it was, but I could not stand the character. They tied her into Charles Xavier in kind of a weird way showing she was a runaway who impersonated his mother and got caught. She was taken in by him and they wound up going to college together until the Mutant uprising where she disappoints Charles and then joins Magneto in the end. I know Mystique was always kind of whorish and seductive, but it did not work in this. Between her trying to seduce Charles and then moving onto Hank while also trying to accept her natural form... I don't know. It was weird.

As for continuity, if you remember X2 you will remember Hank McCoy (aka, Beast) appearing on the TV in normal human form. First Class takes place in the 1960's where Hank is a young, brilliant scientist working with the CIA. He comes in contact with the other Mutants and after meeting Mystique comes up with a "cure" to the physical deformities of his and her mutations. He tests it on himself where he becomes Beast. A big, giant blue werewolf type guy. Now... If he was transformed into full mutation in the 60's, how would he be a normal man in X2? Unless he came up with something to actually cure it in the meantime but I think that is a stretch given the way the Mutant protests were portrayed in the previous X-Men movies.
Another minor one was Havoc. Anyone who knows X-Men knows that Havok is Alex Summers. Summers is also the last name of Scott (aka, Cyclops). Cyclops was in the previous movies played by James Marsden and is a young man in those films. Alex is portrayed as a troubled young man who was taken out of prison to become a CIA Mutant by Magneto and Professor X. How could they realistically be brothers if Havok was the same age, if not younger, than Cyclops was in X-Men back in the 1960's? That makes no sense unless they just don't care to follow the family lines of the comics.

Overall we learn how Beast is born, learn more about Magneto's past and why he was so against peaceful integration of Mutants and humans, how Professor X is put in the wheelchair, how Cerebro comes into play, etc..
I did enjoy it. I honestly consider it to be the best film out of all 5 X-Men movies made so far. I didn't let the continuity bother me.




Oh, and there is a Wolverine cameo. Just fyi.
