Kristen Stewart not returning for Snow White and the Huntsman 2

After the departure of director Rupert Sanders it seems that Universal has settled on a director for the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel. He is former Walking Dead showrunner, Frank Darabont. In addition to Darabont entering negotiations to direct, we also learned that Kristen Stewart is not returning for the sequel.

Snow White and the Huntsman opened back in 2012 to so-so reviews and it was severely overshadowed by the affair between Sanders and Stewart which resulted in a divorce for Sanders and a break-up for Stewart. I think most people went to see this movie primarily for that reason, but that's just a theory.
News that Stewart is apparently being omitted from the sequel isn't really a surprise for a couple reasons. First off, Universal announced over a year ago they had basically dropped her from the future films due to the drama that surrounded her at that time. The initial story then was they decided to move forward with a spin-off about the Huntsman (aka, Chris Hemsworth) instead of pursuing further projects with Stewart. In addition to that, since the famous affair that basically ruined her post-Twilight high, she has had only two film appearances with absolutely none in 2013. Her last credit prior to 2014 was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 which was released in November 2012. She has recently starred in Camp X-Ray where she portrayed an Army guard in Guantanamo Bay and she was hit at Cannes last month for her portrayal of an actress' young assistant in Clouds of Sils Maria. She's currently filming American Ultra where she is reuniting with co-star Jesse Eisenberg. Point being... it is possible that Universal came back around to her and she declined. I don't think I would blame her if that is the case. I would imagine Snow White holds some bad memories and karma.

As far as Frank Darabont goes, he is a somewhat surprising addition to this project. He has apparently beat out directors Gavin O'Conner and Andres Muschietti for the job and is on board with expanding the Huntsman without any help from Kristen Stewart. It's no doubt going to be difficult to restart this Snow White tale without their leading lady. Lucky for Darabont and Universal, Chris Hemsworth has a big enough fanbase to fill theater seats.

Universal is apparently hoping for a 2016 release for Snow White and the Huntsman 2. What do you guys think about a Stewart-less Snow White adaptation? Even more important, how do you think Darabont will do?
I personally wasn't the biggest fan of Snow White and the Huntsman. It definitely won the 2012 cake in the sense that it was a lot more enjoyable than Mirror, Mirror but that still doesn't mean it was great. The best part about the entire flick was Charlize Theron. Kristen Stewart was miscast in the first place, so I think it's best that she has since departed this franchise. 

Kristen Stewart to return for Snow White sequel

After months of speculation and after basically being fired by Universal earlier in the summer, it appears that Kristen Stewart is on board to reprise her role as Snow White in the upcoming sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.
Earlier this year it was reported that Stewart was not being invited to return for the sequel after she was caught cheating on her boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson with Snow White director Rupert Sanders, a married man with two young children. Not a very classy move but everyone apologized and it seems that all parties have moved on. It also seems that Universal has forgiven her and realized she is their cash cow for this Snow White franchise they are trying to build and it would be difficult to continue it without her.

Stewart confirmed with IndieWire during a press junket for On the Road that she will be returning for the Snow White sequel.

Rupert Sanders will not direct Snow White sequel

I don't know how reliable this is just yet but I figured it was worthy of mentioning.

Rupert Sanders, the director of Snow White and the Huntsman, apparently will not be returning for the sequel according to Cinema Blend. Snow White served as Sanders' directorial debut and was a fairly big box office hit taking in over $400 million worldwide and subsequently had a sequel approved by Universal within a few weeks of the release.
However, Sanders' success was tampered after photos surfaced of him cheating on his wife, Liberty Ross, with his lead female star Kristen Stewart. Both parties apologized and it was a big mess all summer long. BUT... despite the cheating scandal it appeared that Sanders was still set to direct the sequel and Kristen Stewart was the one kicked to the curb. The source for Cinema Blend claims that Sanders has withdrawn from the project in a continued attempt to save his marriage. It also is plausible that he dropped the Snow White sequel due to other offers. It is rumored that Universal is considering him to helm the upcoming reboot of Van Helsing starring Tom Cruise. He also landed the director's chair for the upcoming film The Juliet by Sony Pictures. Seeing that he is being offered work by not only Universal is a sign that the scandal hasn't ruined his career or his chance at the Snow White sequel. I personally think he realizing he has better things to do. Not to mention if he returned for the sequel the press tour would no doubt be flooded with questions about the scandal.

Along with this is it also being reported that Kristen Stewart might, or is, returning for the Snow White sequel after all so this is all a big mess. I personally wouldn't etch anything in stone regarding the upcoming sequel until official press releases from Universal are made. I bet the Stewart rumors are surfacing just because Twilight is finally over and because Rupert Sanders is officially out of the picture.


Personally... I would like Stewart to return simply because I was looking forward to the storyline of her as the Queen, but who knows how it will play out. If the sequel is purely a Huntsman spinoff like Universal was saying after the cheating scandal broke out I probably won't be too interested in it. That is a cop out, imo.

Kristen Stewart could still return for Snow White sequel

Earlier this summer it was basically announced that Universal was going a different route for an announced sequel for Snow White and the Huntsman... a sequel that apparently would not include Kristen Stewart and/or Rupert Sanders. As you may have heard those two made Hollywood headlines after being caught cheating on their significant others and being dumb enough to do it in public. After the photos surfaced both of them made public apologies and while Stewart's career took a temporary nosedive, Sanders' did not really suffer damage.

Anyway, after Universal "apparently" booted Stewart from the sequel (claiming that they were going to explore the Huntsman's character instead) most people kinda wrote it off including me. However, Stewart recently teased during a press junket for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 that a return for Snow White and the Huntsman 2 is a "strong possibility." Seeing that it is Kristen Stewart and she seems to enjoy just messing with people I wouldn't take this too close to heart, but if there is a possibility that Universal didn't can her after all I will be happier. I am curious to see a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman but if it's just about the Huntsman then I will be passing. His basic backstory was covered in the first movie.

UPDATE: Kristen Stewart dropped from Snow White sequel

This is honestly very surprising to me.

Universal has stated that Kristen Stewart will not be reprising her role as Snow White in the announced sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. The way the studio put it was that she is not being invited back for the sequel and they are "exploring options to continue the franchise." So in other words, they are basically choosing to not exercise the sequel options in her contract and/or buying her out. Writer David Koepp has also been booted from the sequel despite being previously attached and already starting a script. The script Koepp was working on apparently was going to feature Snow White in 2 movies as a main character and then spin-off to The Huntsman for the third movie. However, kicking Stewart out of the franchise only after one movie pretty much blows that idea up which is why they kicked Koepp out as well. The new rumor is the second movie will be the spin-off for The Huntsman and it will just go from there. Either way I think they are going to have to re-cast Snow White. It's kind of hard to do a Snow White franchise without Snow White.

This comes only a couple weeks after Stewart was caught cheating with Snow White and the Huntsman's director Rupert Sanders. It is still unclear on whether Sanders is returning for the sequel but sources claim he is still attached to direct and one of his stipulations could have been to not have Stewart involved in any way, shape, or form. The rumor mill is stating that Universal is looking for a new writer and is looking to begin filming the sequel in July when Chris Hemsworth becomes available again. Again, that is a rumor for now. There is no official announcement from Universal that a sequel is even happening for sure. It was given the green light but that doesn't always mean a movie is actually going to happen.


Like I said this is shocking to me. Out of all the famous and not so famous cheaters in Hollywood I don't see why Kristen Stewart seems to be getting nothing but the short end of the stick. I don't think she was right in doing what she did but for it to have such a drastic effect on her career after only 2 weeks is pretty ridiculous. When Angelina Jolie stole Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston her career surged. Tiger Woods is still winning golf tournaments, David Letterman still has his late night show, Josh Duhamel still has Fergie, etc.. Kristen Stewart isn't my favorite actress out there, but she shouldn't have her career ruined by this shit. Hollywood is being incredibly hypocritical about this scandal.

UPDATE:
It is now being claimed that Stewart was not dropped from the Snow White sequels because she was never officially attached to begin with despite having a sequel clause in her contract. The new story is Universal is exercising an option to flip a 180 and focus solely on The Huntsman and not Snow White.

Rupert Sanders still might return for SWATH sequel

After news broke of Kristen Stewart being caught out in broad daylight cheating with Rupert Sanders, the married director of Snow White and the Huntsman, a lot of questions began circling around the movie community. Due to the fact that Universal had already given a sequel the green light after Snow White's impressive box office numbers and had hinted at Sanders returning to direct, along with Stewart to return as well, the main question was... will this even happen?

I highly doubt reuniting the two is a wise choice for both Sanders' marriage and/or Stewart's relationship status with Robert Pattinson. With that said, it has been hinted by numerous sources that Sanders and Stewart are both still slated to return for the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. There is no timetable for production and I doubt anyone has even worked on a script yet but it is still happening. HOWEVER, Stewart is bound by contract to return for sequels while Sanders is not. They could easily find another director and might choose to do so. For the sake of public appearances and making their employees comfortable, Universal might choose to replace him. Not to mention his wife, Liberty Ross, is apparently forbidding him from returning if he wants to keep his marriage intact. Bummer dude.
Regarding people questioning if the sequel is even going to happen I would say open your eyes. Universal isn't going to let this one get away. The film had a worldwide box office gross of $309,394,227. They probably think, like I do, that Stewart's fans will still show up at the movie theaters to see her movies despite them claiming to boycott her future projects because their Robsten fantasies were destroyed.


As you might be able to tell I am still finding this whole situation extremely hilarious. Forgive me.

Kristen Stewart cheats on Robert Pattinson with director

I rarely follow celebrity gossip but I found this one too good. I laughed for a solid minute when I read about this last night.

This news broke last night, but it has since been confirmed and apologized for already. Kristen Stewart was caught cheating on Robert Pattinson in the back of her car by paparazzi with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. Sanders is married to Liberty Ross (who played Snow White's mother in the film) with whom he has two fairly young children. He is also close to 20 years older than Stewart. Both parties released statements apologizing for the incident:

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

"I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."

Now... the only reason I chose to write about this is because I was quite invested in the announced sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. In light of recent events I am curious, and doubtful, on how or if the sequel will even happen. If it does happen I think Sanders just blew his chance at returning to the director's chair. Either that or Stewart will walk away from the project unless she has already signed a contract. I think however this unravels is going to be quite interesting. If Universal decides to can Sanders I think the sequel could be quite different both visually and tone-wise from the first. That could either be good or bad. It is also possible that Universal could now can the entire project seeing that Kristen Stewart fans have seemed to revolt against her via online outlets, Twitter, etc.. I have read some of the funniest things from her fans. People are acting like she killed their dog and shit on the corpse. From what I understand Twilight fans feel the most betrayed because their real life Edward and Bella fantasies have now taken a turn for the worst.

I haven't necessarily lost any respect for Kristen Stewart seeing that I didn't have much to begin with. I have previously admitted to liking a majority of her work outside of the Twilight saga, but that doesn't mean I am one of those Krisbians or Robstens or whatever they are called. She isn't Bella Swan, ffs. She is a human being and the truth is human beings make stupid, dumbass decisions. One of those decisions was screwing around with a married man out in the open where paparazzi can take pictures of it and sell them to US Weekly. It unfortunately isn't uncommon among young people to cheat on boyfriends/girlfriends. From what I understand after having fun reading the gossip trash mag websites she cheated on Michael Angarano with Robert Pattinson so I guess this isn't unfamiliar territory for her. I do think she will be fine career wise, though. Cali is moving forward and just cast Alex Pettyfer as her character's boyfriend and she is still the highest paid actress in Hollywood. All I can tell you right now is the press tour for Breaking Dawn Part 2 is going to be hilarious. Whether she and Pattinson stay together or not I can guarantee the first questions any member of the media is going to ask during a junket is "how is it being around each other? Are you guys friends?" I think I will actually follow the press tour just for shits and giggles.

As for Rupert Sanders, he probably just ruined his marriage and his career. The unfortunate part for him is his career barely got started. Snow White and the Huntsman was his first feature film and for all we know it could be the last. It all depends on what he decides to do and what Universal decides to do with him.

Bottom line is this is hilarious. Her statement alone just goes to show the mind of people my age. If you love someone that much then why even put yourself in the situation to begin with? Fucking hell. People are so dumb.


Lesson learned: Hollywood is no different than any other workplace. Don't fuck your co-workers.

Snow White to get "evil and corrupt" in SWATH sequel

MTV News sat down and spoke with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders about the upcoming sequel to the film. As we learned this past week, Universal Pictures has officially given the green light to a sequel due to the overwhelming (and somewhat surprising) success of the film starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. Along with this news the studio is also in talks with Sanders to return to direct the sequel and although none of the actors are bound by contract to appear in a sequel, the clauses are in place and they can return if they choose to. Due to the success I doubt anyone would turn down the chance to return for a second film.

Sanders told MTV that he plans on including the theme of abusing power when it comes to Snow White's rise to the Queen. If you saw Snow White and the Huntsman you know that Snow White defeats the Evil Queen (in this case it was Queen Ravenna) and takes her rightful place on the throne. Sanders suggests that the film would focus on Snow White's struggle to maintain her power fairly and that it would center around her becoming corrupt and abusing the enormous amount of power she was suddenly given. To quote Rupert Sanders directly:

"I think the corruption of power would be the second one. I think we've created this very chaste girl who's got to this position and now she's in this position of supreme power. We wanted to be contemporary with the theme here and I think in the next film we'll do the same... People who get powerful sometimes lose their bearings and abuse that power and that's kind of an intoxicating theme."

However... this is not set in stone. Sanders hasn't even officially been attached to the sequel and none of the actors have signed onto another project so this is all speculation and hearsay for right now. I do think that sounds like an awesome storyline, though. I didn't fully dislike Snow White and the Huntsman so I am interested to see what they will do with it next. I just hope the sequel has a better script.

Universal moves forward with Snow White sequel

Seeing that Snow White and the Huntsman has passed $115 million internationally at the box office in less than two weeks I guess it is safe to say it was a hit. With that said, Universal has announced that it will be moving forward with a sequel to the film starring Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Chris Hemsworth. I had read before but Deadline's article also mentions the fact that the actors' contracts included sequel options for up to two more movies so this move doesn't surprise me at all, especially with the way Snow White and the Huntsman ended. SPOILER ALERT: The Huntsman's kiss worked when William's didn't and Snow White seemed to know that somehow, so that alone left it open for expansion.

Whenever this sequel comes out, which I am predicting sometime in late 2013 or early to mid 2014, I will most likely see it. I did enjoy Snow White and the Huntsman (my review is here in case you missed it) although I thought it could have been much better. Hopefully the sequel has a much better script and a villain just as badass as Charlize Theron.
It has also been said that a sequel would focus more on The Huntsman. Whether it would be from his point of view with Snow White as his main interest or if he would just be the main focus with Snow White and William as a background is unknown, but I don't really see any other route they could take with that. All I can really say is leave it to Hollywood to put Kristen Stewart in yet another franchise love triangle. Wasn't 4 years of Twilight enough for that poor girl and for the world?

Snow White and the Huntsman sequel in development

Universal is already developing a sequel to the upcoming film Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil Queen Ravenna.The film opens in the US on June 1st.

Personally... I feel like they should have waited to make this announcement until the movie is released. It shows both extreme confidence and arrogance on Universal's part. It's all well and good to think your film is going to do well and have a strong opening, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket when there is still more than a month until the first one is even released.
I guess they are also comfortable with the fact that their actors are willing to sign onto yet another possible franchise. Kristen Stewart has Twilight, Chris Hemsworth has the Marvel movies centered around Thor, and Sam Clafin is involved with Pirates of the Caribbean.  I don't mention Charlize Theron because I have a feeling she gets killed in Snow White and the Huntsman but I suppose you never know for sure.

With all that said, however, I am excited for this movie. The more TV spots and trailers I see the more excited I have gotten. I also think the Florence + The Machine song is great.

Snow White and the Huntsman promo clips begin

Along with the premiere of the full trailer tomorrow (March 19th) during The Voice.

I saw the promo clips via Xfinity, because I have Comcast, and after finally hearing Kristen Stewart's voice in a clip my excitement for this movie has gone up. I truly think it's going to be good if not great. It looks a lot better than Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I only mention that because it was another warrior-princess type adaptation that, in my opinion, failed miserably. Plus in the Snow White and the Huntsman promos so far they have been capitalizing on the fact that it has the same producers as Alice in Wonderland.
