MTV cancels Buckwild after cast death

I don't know why, but I find this interesting.

MTV has decided to pull the plug on their West Virginia reality show Buckwild. This move comes after cast member Shain Gandee was killed last week during an off-roading trip. Gandee and two others were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning after they got stuck in the mud.
The network already completed four episodes for the second season and had recently increased the cast member pay from $1000 to $4000 per episode. The cast also received some pretty hefty bonuses. MTV stated that Gandee carried the show and that continuing without him would be a shame. Instead there will be a Buckwild special in honor of Gandee's memory.


I find this interesting because when has MTV ever not taken the opportunity to document the drama on a reality show? People on the Real World have had parents die while on the show and filming wasn't suspended. The cast members had more cameras shoved in their faces. You have episodes of True Life where people are put in situations that are dangerous and nothing is suspended. The cameras keep rolling. What makes Buckwild any different?
