It's been rumored for months, but we now have confirmation that Marvel will not have a Hall H panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International. Marvel has been the star of Hall H for quite a few years now and it's a bit confusing as to why they are skipping this year.
Many are speculating this is due to Marvel's somewhat lackluster panel last year. They had attempted to use the platform to announce all of Phase Three, tease Guardians of the Galaxy, and announce Joaquin Phoenix as Doctor Strange, but his negotiations fell through just prior to the convention. As a result, they didn't reveal much at all.
However, there are a couple options why. Seeing that Marvel is a Disney owned entity now, Kevin Feige might decide to save whatever they have for the D23 Convention in Anaheim. They are Disney owned, after all. Another theory is they just don't have enough to show. Captain America: Civil War just started filming, Spider-Man hasn't begun production yet, and there is no point trying to hype Ant-Man because it's hitting next month.

What we didn't get at SDCC this year
San Diego Comic-Con was full of surprises and footage, as always, but there is still a decent amount of things that fans expected to happen that simply didn't. Here are some of the things I can think of that were absent from SDCC that either should have been there or I assumed would be there and just weren't.
1. We got nothing for Justice League
I understand Justice League is still a few years away, but I honestly expected some kind of teaser for it. A photo, a logo... something. Don't get me wrong, I managed to see a leak of the BvS footage and it looked great but I expected something for Justice League.
2. No information on future DC films
We all saw that "leak" of Warner Bros' schedule for DC films that was leaked as a Comic-Con reveal. The basic fact of it is that it didn't happen. We didn't get any confirmation of release dates, future character movies, or crossovers. It was another thing that was expected but we didn't get it.
3. No footage for Jurassic World
Most of us expected at least a teaser for Jurassic World and it did not happen. The most we got for the fourth installment was the vehicle and the posters. Universal chose to tease test footage for Skull Island and announce Godzilla 2 instead.
4. No information on Marvel's massive schedule
Sure, we got a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but we didn't get anything else. I was expecting Marvel to reveal some more release dates and do something similar to what we got last year. Marvel didn't close out Hall H with the big bang they usually do.
5. Nothing on Doctor Strange
Along with Marvel's kind of disappointing weekend, we didn't get anything regarding Doctor Strange. The role hasn't been cast yet but we have a release date and a director. I assumed we would at least get a logo.
6. Nothing for Fantastic Four
Yet another thing most people expected to be present at SDCC was completely missing. We got nothing for the reboot of Fantastic Four. I don't see any reasoning seeing that they already have a cast and everything.
Aside from not having panels for things like Mockingjay - Part 1 there were a lot of surprises this year and not all of them were good. I'm a bit disappointed with SDCC this year because it doesn't feel like we got a lot of major announcements. It was mostly panels for stuff we already knew about. There was a serious lack of excitement for the future of franchises.

SDCC: New image of Ben Affleck as Batman emerges
I hate admitting this. Like, I really hate it... but Ben Affleck looks pretty awesome as Batman.
There. I said it.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has a panel in Hall H on Saturday, so it is expected that we will get something. It's a bit early for a trailer but Warner Bros. might show some footage so far. BvS is currently set to go head to head against Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016.

SDCC implementing a wristband system for Hall H
San Diego Comic-Con is coming up, hence the lack of movie news lately, and it seems they have finally realized just how many people attend each year. Apparently organizers will be using a new wristband system for Hall H events this year which is hoping to give guests a more realistic idea of how likely they are to get in.
Hall H is notorious for the high scale of guests and information that is in that room. It is where the first footage for films like Man of Steel and The Avengers along with announcements for projects like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Superstar panels for superhero films, comedies, and just about everything under the sun happens in Hall H, too.
Guests have been steadily getting more irritated with the amount of people trying to enter Hall H all at once and how organizers just flood people through the doors. Last year people were camped out in line to enter on Friday afternoon and evening. SDCC organizers are saying this new system, deemed the Toucan Tracker, will give guests wristbands when they arrive in line. When Hall H is at capacity for that panel or time there will be no more wristbands distributed and whoever arrives after then won't be able to attend that panel or event. They will also be color coded based upon which number you are in line. For example, the color for the first 50 people is green. After that the color morphs to yellow. Let's say the last bundle of bands is red. By that color code you know that if you have a red wristband you are near the back of the line and will most likely be sitting in the back of the room if you can get in at all. There will be a total of four colors, but they have not revealed which colors will represent which place in line.
There is also a clause stating that if you obtain a wristband but leave the line, you are then forfeiting your spot. The only way to get around this is if you have a group and take turns leaving. As long as you have someone with the same color wristband holding your spot you can re-enter the line.
Now... this still doesn't guarantee you getting in even if you have a wristband. I will repeat that, they are not guaranteed entrance bands. Why? Well, there are those people who will stay in Hall H if they're lucky enough to get in. If you have three people who obtain the first round of wristbands for the first event in the morning and they decide to stay all day, that takes three seats away from the group of people in line for the next event and the one after that, etc. Also, there is still hope if you don't have a wristband. As soon as the last color runs out they will begin admitting non-banded guests into Hall H if space is available.

SDCC: Captain America fights the post-Avengers world
Captain America: The Winter Soldier seems to be the first Phase Two movie that will actually acknowledge the post-Avengers world. Comic-Con revealed that Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) fights alongside Captain America (Chris Evans) while he struggles with adjusting to the modern world.
The panel consisted of Chris Evans, Frank Grillo, Emily Van Camp, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, and Colbie Smulders along with directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
What we learned from the panel:
1. Steve is struggling with the modern world not in terms of technology, but in societal and moral changes. It's tougher to tell right from wrong than it was in the 1940's.
2. Black Widow is an integral part in The Winter Soldier and fights alongside Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D.
3. The Winter Soldier (aka, Bucky Barnes) is close to the comic arc set by Ed Brubaker.
And, of course, there was a trailer. Here is the description:
It begins with a fantastic scene of Cap riding in an elevator. He’s alone, wearing his costume (no helmet) with the shield on his back. He’s lonely. The elevator stops and two men board led by Grillo’s character. Grillo’s character and Cap tersely acknowledge each other, and the elevator continue to go up. The process repeats with more men getting on at multiple stops—some are dressed as agents, others are soldiers. It’s a great visual metaphor for the sinister forces working alongside and closing in around Rogers. Captain Amerian can sense their malovelent intentions towards him and he says, “Anyone who wants can still get off.” No one moves, Cap hits the emergency stop, and the fight begins. Despite the cramped quarters and handheld cameras, it’s a thrilling fight with Cap taking on eight or nine guys. The Russos capture the action perfectly, and it’s cut together in a way that we move with the momentum of the fight rather than just trying to keep up with it.
After Captain beats up his attackers, we move on to the rest of the trailer which is a big montage. One key moment is Fury telling Rogers, “We have to deal with the world as it is; not how we’d like it to be,” and Rogers responding, “That’s not freedom. That’s fear”. We also see the return as well as the destruction of the helicarrier. We see Falcon fly and firing guns at a helicopter that’s chasing him and trying to shoot him down. There are also a lot of fisticuffs on display from Natasha, and although the action has its own flavor, we don’t see much of the gritty spy stuff. Admittedly, it’s difficult to translate that an assault of images. The closing shot is Cap’s shield embedded in the ground, and we see a bionic arm grab the top of it. We pan up to reveal our first official look at the unmasked Winter Soldier.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is aiming to give audiences a better glimpse into Steve Rogers as a character and also to further develop his individual storyline. It also gives the biggest reveal of the post-Avengers world in terms of how the public is dealing with the "outing" of the superheroes and aliens.

Say hello to The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Kevin Feige gave fans more than was expected including the surprise Guardians of the Galaxy panel and now the official title for The Avengers sequel. Feige brought in Joss Whedon to reveal a trailer of quotes for The Avengers that ends with Nick Fury telling Maria Hill that the group would be coming back together, and then the camera pans to reveal Ultron's helmet. After the helmet this showed up:
For those who don't know, here is the basics on Ultron:
He is the creator of the synthezoid, The Vision, who Ultron tries to use as a weapon to destroy The Avengers. Further flashbacks reveal that Dr. Henry Pym (aka, Ant-Man) is the creator of Ultron. However, the robot eventually created his own intelligence and rebelled. He tried to kill Pym and became interested in Janet van Dyne (aka, The Wasp).
The biggest question for most, including me, is with all these bad villains being introduced (like Ultron, The Vision, and Nebula), how exactly does Thanos fit into all of this if he is the main villain? Are they going to make him the one who is controlling all of this? It is also possible that Thanos has been announced but will be saved until The Avengers 3. At this point anything is possible.

Along with the publicized panels for Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel decided to surprise Comic-Con guests with a panel and footage from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Kevin Feige brought out director James Gunn who was joined by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Benicio del Toro, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, and Djimon Hounsou.
What we learned from the panel:
1. Chris Pratt used a tapeworm to get in shape for the role of Star-Lord (gross).
2. James Gunn approached his first superhero movie like his other films by planning everything ahead of time.
3. Benicio del Toro has not begun filming yet and met the cast for the first time prior to the panel.
4. Filming has only taken place for 10-13 days.
5. The footage suggests the film will be funny with a lot of James Gunn's style.
We also got some new concept art.
That's about it. I'm sure you'll be able to find some YouTube uploads of the test footage before too long. I guess this was Marvel's way of showing us the expansion of the Cinematic Universe.

Apparently this is the panel that got the first standing ovation in Hall H.
Along with The Wolverine and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Fox brought X-Men: Days of Future Past to Comic-Con and had a gigantic panel consisting of old and new X-Men actors. In attendance was Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Shawn Ashmore, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, writer Simon Kinberg, and producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. Also joining was director Bryan Singer.
Here is a nice group shot of everyone:
What we learned from the panel is limited but enough:
1. Days of Future Past is in 3D.
2. A majority of the effects are still unfinished, but there was some footage screened. A description is listed below.
3. Omar Sy is indeed playing Bishop.
4. Deadpool is not in Days of Future Past at all, so we can all hang our heads in disappointment.
Here is a description of the footage screened from Collider:
"So many mutants but the core is that we see Xavier, Magneto, Storm, and Wolverine in the future. Xavier says they need to send Logan’s mind back to his younger body and convince young Xavier and young Magneto to avert the disastrous future. In the future, we see the cast members from the first three movies in dark, futuristic-looking clothing but not cheesy. It’s austere, and so is the landscape, not the ragged, post-apocalypse from the comics.
When Wolverine goes back, we see the First Class members, and young Xavier looks absolutely beaten and tired. We then go through a big montage of almost all the characters. Memorable moments include Beast trying to drown young Magneto, and a young Magneto using his power to drag a helpless Mystique towards him. The trailer finishes out with young Xavier shouting, 'I don’t want your future!' We then go to a two-shot with young Xavier and old Xavier facing each other. Old Xavier tells his younger self, 'Please. We need you to hope again.'"
In other words... X-Men: Days of Future Past looks like it will surpass First Class and be pretty damn cool.

New image for Carrie in time for Comic-Con
Thanks to Comic-Con we are getting tons of new images from movies and television. One movie that is rolling out some new stuff is Carrie starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.

Entertainment Weekly reveals Comic-Con issue
We have some pretty cool covers for the upcoming Comic-Con issue of Entertainment Weekly. The magazine will feature a cover for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 along with inside covers featuring Carrie, Ender's Game, and Orphan Black.

Teaser poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Just in time for Comic-Con this month, they have released the first teaser poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Looks pretty cool to me. Basic but not bad.
As you can tell, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released (no doubt in 3D) on April 4th, 2014. It stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Emily VanCamp.
The film will also appear at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20th.

Denver Comic-Con 2013 announcement
Not only did Denver's 1st annual Comic-Con set a record for the most in attendance for a first year con, just behind NYC's, but they have already started planning their 2013 sequel. It will again be at the Colorado Convention Center from May 31st to June 2nd.
This is the big news... they have announced their guest of honor already and it is none other than the most iconic man in the comic book world. Ladies and gentlemen... the former head of Marvel Comics, Mr. Stan Lee.
I can't believe this. I am so fucking there.
