The semi-final list for Best Visual Effects at the 2012 Academy Awards has been narrowed down to 10 finalists from 15. Those booted from the list: Cowboys & Aliens, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Sucker Punch, Super 8, and Thor.

Um... The Tree of Life is in the running still but Super 8 and Thor aren't? Hell, even Sucker Punch had better visual effects. I honestly am wondering, though... what visual effects did The Tree of Life have that would warrant an Oscar nomination? Weird visuals of space that lasted for like 45 minutes of the movie? Give me a fucking break. Super 8 should have The Tree of Life's spot. That is outrageous.
However, out of those that are still in the running I hope Rise of the Planet of the Apes makes the final 5 and takes home the statue. The effects in that movie were incredible.
