Usually takes me a while

After having a night to absorb the Academy Awards I am still stuck on a couple things. Makes me realize what a true dork I am, but who really gives a rats ass?

I am SO happy Natalie Portman won. I watched her acceptance speech again on YouTube and I just smile the whole time. I have always been a fan of hers ever since I was a kid. She looked absolutely beautiful, too. I think this was the best awards look she has had so far. I am honestly thinking the award she received last night counts for previous projects, too. Like I said in my last post I am specifically referencing V for Vendetta and Garden State. Those are two movies that should have at least earned her Golden Globe or Academy Award nominations. If she received a Globe nomination for Anywhere but Here, which is another movie I love, then she could have gotten one for those two.
The first time I saw Garden State her character annoyed the piss out of me but at the same time I loved her. She was so genuine and it related back to the audience in a fantastic way. After watching it multiple times her character grew on me so quickly. "What do you do? You laugh. I'm not saying I don't cry, but in between I laugh and I realize how silly it is to take anything too seriously. Plus I look forward to a good cry. Feels pretty good." That movie seriously got screwed over on recognition. It is such a great film. Not really a fan of Zach Braff but he proved something with that one.
V for Vendetta is just on a whole other level. The concept of that movie was amazing let alone the acting. Hugo Weaving should have been nominated for something as well as Natalie Portman. The fact that she went the mile to shave her head just proves how dedicated she allows herself to be. She brought herself down to a skeleton for Black Swan and brought herself to a sickly looking prisoner with no hair in V for Vendetta. She is just amazing.

One thing I forgot to talk about was the fact that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross brought home the gold man for Best Original Score. I was beside myself with my heart fluttering away whenever I saw Trent on screen. As much as I didn't like The Social Network those two did give it an amazing score. I honestly think even if I wasn't a Nine Inch Nails fan that I would be thinking the same thing. I was just as happy when they won the Golden Globe.

Anyway... I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. I'll end with yet another great quote from Garden State; "If you can't laugh at yourself life is going to seem a whole lot longer than you'd like."

And the Oscar went to...

Looks like the only predicitons I missed were Supporting Actress and Director. Not bad!

I can't even begin to describe how excited I am that Natalie Portman took home Best Actress. I have been rooting for her since I first saw Black Swan in December predicting that she would sweep the awards ceremonies and that is exactly what she did. I'm not just happy that I was right. I am happy that she finally received the recognition and awards she should have gotten for previous movies, specifically including V for Vendetta and Garden State. Well done, Natalie. For Hollywood's sake, please don't disappear after your baby is born.

Colin Firth is a class act. I have always been a fan of his and was very happy to see him win. On the subject of The King's Speech, I am ecstatic that it won Best Picture and Best Director. I will admit I haven't seen the film yet and this is fueled purely by the hatred I have for The Social Network. I was pushing Black Swan and/or Inception but I am alright with them losing as long as it wasn't to The Social Network. And it wasn't :-)

I thought the show was an overall success, though. James Franco and Anne Hathaway were actually pretty decent hosts. The opening montage was hilarious.

And the Oscar goes to...

So the Academy Awards are tonight, hooray, and I have made some predictions of my own. I'm curious to see how they will turn out.

Here is what I am realistically predicting, at least for the major categories:

Best Actress:  Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Best Actor:  Colin Firth - The King's Speech
Best Picture:  The Social Network or The King's Speech
Best Director:  David Fincher - The Social Network
Best Animated Feature:  Toy Story 3
Best Supporting Actor:  Christian Bale - The Fighter
Best Supporting Actress:  Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit
Best Original Score:  Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - The Social Network

That's how it most likely will go down in the major categories, I think. However, that doesn't mean that's how I would like it to go down. I wish Black Swan and/or Inception had more of a realistic chance at Best Picture. The Social Network was an unbelievably overrated movie and I don't think it deserved the Golden Globe and I really hope it gets beat out for Best Picture at this show. I wish Darren Aronofsky could walk away with Best Director, but it will honestly go to Fincher. If he winds up losing it will be to Tom Hooper or the Coen brothers. It won't be to Aronofsky, although it should. I also am still irked at the incredible snub they gave Christopher Nolan. He should have been nominated over David O'Russell by a long shot, but life goes on. Hopefully he will grab a spot in the top 5 for Dark Knight Rises because I have no doubt that will be a great film.

Anyway, we'll see how things turn out. Back to watching the Countdown to the Oscars crap on TV.

Give it a shot

So I bought that Michael Jackson: The Experience game for Wii last week. After playing it almost every day I have to say it is pretty legit. The dances are actually pretty hard and you get a decent work out. Granted I am a fat shit and of course I was huffing and puffing, but hey... at least I'm giving it a shot, eh?

I have never considered myself a dancer, because my foot coordination is terrible, but I am enjoying myself. I'm thinking of picking up Just Dance for Wii and giving that one a shot, too. I need some sort of physical activity and maybe drop some of this ass. If video games can help me do that then more power to them.

One thing that will never cease to amuse me...

People who claim you are the one being immature and bitchy yet they are the ones signing into chats and immediately leaving when they see you're there, unfriending on Facebook, etc.. Such a cry for attention it's disgusting... but hilarious. I will continue to laugh. Fuck you.

Sorry, lol.

I swear...

Some people's stupidity and arrogance is just plain hilarious. No one is right 100% of the time.

2011 movie list, so far.

So I was thinking about movies I have seen trailers for and/or have heard a lot about.

First off, I have to talk about Thor. I was skeptical about Thor until I saw an early trailer for this one back in December or early January. I thought the effects looked promising, Thor looked pretty hot (won't even lie), and had hopes that it would lead into The Avengers well. I have been saying my $8.50 going to The Avengers depends on how good Thor and Captain America are. After seeing both the Super Bowl spot and the new full-length second trailer featuring more action, and Jane Foster, I am more than excited. I have always liked the concept of Thor's hammer so this will hopefully be a nice treat for me. I might even see it in 3D.

Speaking of superhero type movies, I am also quite excited for both Captain America and The Green Lantern. I saw both teaser trailers and am ready to get my geek on at the theater this Summer. The only thing I am semi-confused about is the fact that Chris Evans is cast as both Steve Rogers and Johnny Storm. Unless they are completely leaving the Fantastic Four out of The Avengers I find it odd that they would choose to cast him in both roles that are quite pivotal to The Avengers, but who knows. We'll find out next year.

Other than those, I am excited to see these as well...

Sucker Punch

Mother's Day
Priest

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The Hangover 2
X-Men: First Class

Fright Night
The Invention of Hugo Cabret

New beginning.

I had a blog under my old email. Seeing that I created a Gmail it was giving me a tough time about signing into it. Whenever I would log out to use the other email it would kick me out of both Gmail and YouTube. I said screw it and just created a new blog under the new email.

I'll still keep the other one open but this is the one I will start using full time if I can ever get back into the swing of doing it more often.
